That's a really great GIF set Regis...good job :thumb up: I'd be in real trouble with that lens since all mine are handheld ;-) I can't go beyond a 400mm lens...and right now all I have is a 300mm.

Thank you very much, Jan. You can't go beyond a 400mm lens because they are too heavy?

Thank you for your information. I didn't know how close you are to the Ocean to get the BIF photos. I am 5 hours away from the Ocean here, but very close to many large lakes in this area which have a lot of Seagulls, but no Pelicans.

Thank you, naturepics43. Below is an uncropped photo.

WOW! Thanks for posting this. That 600 mm really brings in a nice size image from 350-400 feet. You'll have to back down some for a large bird.

Thanks again for humoring an old man. It's appreciated.

Really, really enjoy viewing your images.

Two days ago on a sunny but windy day I took these 3 Seagull photos over the Coeur d' Alene Lake beach area which ranged from 350' to 650'. I am still practicing with this new Tamron lens for BIF photos. I'll get better as time goes on.
All photos were shot at 600mm.

Thank you, raferrelljr, for your kind words. I guess the darker backgrounds of the top 2 photos give a 3d look to the lighter-colored Seagulls. Just guessing.

Lots of sea gull Regis both inland and by the sea alas no pelicans only those in Green Park near Buckingham Palace in London. If your calculations are correct your third image of the seagull in flight was taken at 200 yards which is 600 feet, if this correct. only it is so sharp at that range. My Sigma 150-500 would never be as sharp or fill the frame like your image does at that distance. Why were you shooting at F14 rather than F8 or with a larger aperture please. Seriously thinking of trading in the Big Sig for the big Tammy. regards Washy

Lots of sea gull Regis both inland and by the sea ... (show quote)

Yes, 200 yards = 600 feet and I have some posted photos that are closer to 1000 feet with some detail using the Sigma 50-500mm and the Tamron 150-600mm ( better with the detail ). My aperture will fluctuate depending on my other settings unless I lock it in. My in-camera setting is set at #6 which is extra sharp so all my shots come out looking very sharp. This can make a big difference.

I don't understand why a Tamron Rep isn't hiring you for his northwest longshot expert !!! Those shot are unbelievable !!

You are in so tight on the first one I thought I knew him !!

Tell me you didn't do these hand held ???

Not much more practice required judging by these shots. Very impressive combo (kit and user)
