Love these, especially the last one. Did you crop these much and how far away were you? I just got a sx50, and not convinced yet I'm loving it. I'm sure it's operator error, or learning curve, or whatever.

Thanks! Here is eagle with fish, unedited. Equiv. focal length was 1800 mm, using the 1.5x in-camera teleconverter - I actually couldn't even tell the eagle had a fish until I zoomed in!

I am always pushing the limits of the sensor for far-away shots :) And light was fading fast. Also here is another (unedited), slightly more distant view taken from my same vantage point to give you a better idea of distance.

If you experiment, you'll find which settings work best for you. Sometimes the auto-focus just can't lock on and it can also be hard to hold the camera steady.

There are many happy SX50 users on UHH (Wahawk, ggtc, Dook, dlevon, sleepydrdr and others); feel free to ask for advice anytime :)

Thank you Mike! These shots represent the best 10 or so out of 250 :)

Very nice, they look closer, but I know they are across the river. Thanks for sharing. Bee

I didn't even know the adult had a fish 'til I zoomed in :) Thanks for your comments, Bee.

These are just super! 1 and 4 are my favorites, they are gorgeous.

Thanks so much HT. And again, I appreciate your having taught us "poster edges." It reminds me a bit of HDR-ish in Picasa. If used sparingly, it seems to enhance the original and keep it looking real.

Thank you so much Danny. Being dragged, kicking and screaming, into the realm of pp is helping too :)

Linda, I know the feeling. They rarely pose where the light is just right. TNmike

I think the way you have been using it is excellent. Very subtle!

Great shots with the SX50. I really appreciate the patience it takes to get photos of eagles in their natural surroundings.

Okay, color me impressed! Never doubted you, but these are fantastic!!! Number one needs a frame, and number four is no slouch, either. Five star work on these, Linda. Kudos.
