I thought it was interesting to compare the varied looks of the juveniles - who don't gain the distinctive white heads and tails until around age 5.

Canon SX50 with in-camera teleconverter. All edited in PSE12, including something I learned yesterday: opening a jpg in "camera raw." All but #2 have slight poster edges effect.

Thanks so much for your kind words, Holly. I have sure enjoyed this modestly priced super-zoom camera since purchasing last May :)

Great shots all of them but the one with the fish is outstanding.

Thank you Georgie. I've learned so much about birds from a photo buddy/birder friend + on UHH, but the amount I still don't know is staggering :)

Thank you Jim! I saw it land on the stump but didn't realize it held a fish 'til I'd taken quite a few shots of its mate in another tree (as always, they were quite far away!). The right time/right place luck continues on :)

Love these, especially the last one. Did you crop these much and how far away were you? I just got a sx50, and not convinced yet I'm loving it. I'm sure it's operator error, or learning curve, or whatever.
