By definition the worth of a product or service is what a willing person is willing to pay and what a willing owner is willing to sell it for.

Actually it is evil. It is getting more for something than it is worth. Ideally everything would be traded at its value. We are so ingrained in our system like monkeys with their hand in the gourd (they could get free by letting go of the bait by opening their fist, the fist won't fit through the whole but they won't because they will lose the bait they want, thus they/we are trapped)-we are unable to ever even consider an alternative. Adobe is getting particularly cutthroat about it, cutting out the little guys, the beginners who can't afford their big packages and now you evidently can't even buy from them but only rent. Rent is a particular evil where you rip some body off over and over again and never give what is being sold. "All companies exist to make a profit" of course, but just imagine that their might be other ways of doing things in an advanced civilization. You can't.

How about complaining about that empty suit in the White House?

How about leaving the hateful political comments out of the photography section?

I have budgeted $9.99/mo for photography. Thank you, Adobe. I have everything including the latest upgrades to Lightroom, Photoshop and more. I have the best gear. Thank you, Nikon. I have my health. Thank you, parents.

Surely there must be something I can complain about. Please help me. Surely, someone can suggest something.

I'd like to join you in being grateful. And, I'm shooting a four-year old D90!

I purchased PSE12! from Costco recently for $79.00 and uninstalled my PSE11 for my computer. I then put my PSE11 on EBay and sold it yesterday for over $60.00. I did the same last year with PSE10. It's worth the trouble, at least I think so.

I have been under the impression that a buyer of used software will have trouble registering it their name. Is this not the case with PSE?

Adobe has a quirk that really annoys me and in some cases distresses me too. While each new upgrade of PS and PSE usually has the odd new goodie that is intended to entice us to buy the latest version, it inevitably is missing something too.

On two occasions, once when I was using PSE and later when I was using PS I went through an upgrade and discovered that a vital function I had been using heavily and relied upon suddenly wasn't there in the new release. I immediately complained to Adobe who simply responded that it's not there and if I feel it's a good idea to have that function I should submit a suggestion to their developers.

ARGH!! It had been built in, it was working perfectly, and I'm supposed to offer a suggestion? Later when another upgrade came along I wrote Adobe in advance. I pointed out that it's nice to know what the new release offers by way of new features but it's more important to me to find out what's been removed. They responded saying they don't understand the question, perhaps if I were to explain myself they might be able to help. Basically they were expecting me to send them a complete list of functions I use and they might tell me if anything on that list has been removed and the operative word is "might".

It's the same with technical support these days. That is shrinking too. I used to be able to send an email with a question and get an immediate reply addressing my issue. These days I'm expected to thread through endless web pages and knowledge base pages in the hope that there might be something that addresses my issue only to discover there is nothing at all. They have also removed the human being from the support equation sticking it to us all to figure it out for ourselves.

I find too that the help facilities have changed. When I'm in a jungle and press help I don't get much since there's no internet connection. Some help eh? And when I am near an internet connection what I am frequently given are web pages that are actually advertisements selling me something that will solve the problem I'm having rather than giving me the solution as used to be the case with the Help functions.

And now of course we've moved on again, we are now forced to subscribe to them instead of buying and owning the product and the moment we stop paying tribute to Adobe the product stops working, leaving us screwed with thousands of photoshop format images we can no longer open. In the meantime we are rewarded with automatic upgrades but that simply also means that the next day you'll find something else has been removed that you used to count on and now there's no human being to write to in order to have them put it back.

I feel for those who suddenly find themselves with a new product that gets upgraded a three months later but I don't see that as an important issue. There's no one who protects you beyond thirty days. But this is only a small microcosm of a series of much larger issues that have been evolving with Adobe.

I think this speaks of an arrogant organization that does not respect its customers at all. I think they figure we no longer have a choice so they can do as they please. I think it's time for Adobe to have a serious competitor and the moment one comes along I'll be among the first in line to acquire their products and get rid of everything Adobe.

I purchased Photoshop Elements 11 three months prior to the upgrade to 12 and they tell me that I do not qualify for a free upgrade. I will upgrade, but it will never be to another one of Adobe's products. :(

And I purchased my PSE 11 four months before 12 came out. Where is the cut off? A month seems fair to me

I use , along with others, Topaz and they always give free upgrades to all their products. I've been using their products for a while now and every time they upgrade you can download their upgrade with no charge. Never had a problem...Rich

Re. "No other software offers upgrades" sometime ago Photodex (Proshow) gave me a very reasonable deal to upgrade from Gold to Producer. I had been a customer for years and loved their software. I have also been a longstanding customer of Adobe starting with Elements 4 and now at 11 but the ridiculous cost of the upgrade for very little new (still no curves) resulted in no uptake to 12 for me. I would love to use Photoshop 6 but again the amount of work I would use it for renders the cost unjustifiable. I had foolishly thought that when 6 went to The Cloud one might have had a time used deal as most of us non pros only use it a little.

Adobe has become a bit of a monopoly and I intend to stick to Nikon NX2 and not take up on Lightroom.

You can now rent Photoshop in its Creative Cloud version for $20 a month, and this rental fee includes LR. Adobe updates PCC as updates become available, instead of waiting for a new version of Photoshop.

Adobe has forgotten all of us who are not pro photographers. They built their firm on the backs of all of us, pros and amateurs alike, and now that they believe we're hooked they thumb their noses at us little guys.

As I enter my "golden" years I'm not sure to what extent I will be able to support my gear addiction. With Obama-care or lack thereof, rising home insurance costs, etc., we just don't see a good future for those of us working stiffs.

I have used Lightroom and PS for a number of years now dating back to LR 1 and PS 2 but have now stopped my regular Adobe cash donations with LR 4 and CS5. I'm not inclined to continue LR as I don't want to get stuck down the road unable to use my software or access my catalogs because I would rather spend money on food than contribute to Adobe-care. I have been trying various alternatives and hope soon to land on something reliable.
