Nikon keeps on releasing new prosumer cameras, RED cameras, and $1700 lenses that allow you to shoot in the dark... Well I've decided that untill Nikon comes out with a new PRO-BODY DX model, I'm going to keep my money in my pocket, refine my skills snd keep shooting with my most excellent D300s !
Hey Nikon, Put that in your pipe and SMOKE IT !

Very nice photos. With your composition and technical skills the camera doesn't matter.

Nice shots, but this is exactly what Nikon (and Canon) does not want to hear. You have to buy the latest model to be able to get the best shots. The D600 is old hat by now. Get with the times! Spend money! :D

Yes, and there is no question in my mind but that red cameras will greatly enhance your results.

Look how good some people do with those girly white lenses!

Naw, not for need, but having some fun anyway. A Sherpa wouldn't be a bad idea though.

I just bought a D5200 a few months and still learning it. Now there is a D5300 with WiFi and GPS. I use a card reader and generally know where I took the picture so will wait for a 7300 or a 5500.
Read where the big camera companies are seeing their market being eroded by the improving smartphone cameras but I still don't think that little sensor can give the same results as a DX or FX. Guess it is all in WHY you want to take a picture.

Am I understanding this correctly? Are you really kvetching over what Nikon is making? Or are you grousing about what Nikon is not making?

Seems to me you all might want to rake leaves to work out some of your angst.

The camera manufactures are in trouble! There is a mass migration of the general populace to phone based cameras and instant sharing. The majority of people will never print beyond 4x6 or 5x7, perhaps an occasional 8x10.

I feel confident that they are looking for a sweet spot to keep the cash flow going and to, perhaps, entice a few of the phone users to switch to a real camera. To do so they feel that they need to offer all the "bells and whistles".

I understand their dilemma. They are caught in an area where technology is truly disruptive. I just hope they can all survive.

I don't think the camera manufacturers are in trouble at all. Generally, serious photography hobbyists are still buying and using dedicated cameras, not phones. And professionals don't use phone cameras, at least not for their work. What has changed are the habits of the casual snapshot shooting consumer and the effects on the low budget camera market, but manufactures are adapting to this change by shifting their marketing strategy - as they have numerous times in the past.

As far as I can tell, people who are actually printing their images (at home) are more likely to print sizes larger than 4x6. Those who have their digital images printed at drugstores etc. often get the 4x6 or 5x7 sizes, but this has been so for many decades, nothing really new.

While I agree that there has been an explosion of people using phone and tablet cameras I'm not sure that has negatively impacted the DSLR market or the up and coming mirrorless market. The convenience and improving sensors they are including might be impacting point and shoot cameras but IMHO the tiny sensors will never replace large camera sensors for serious photography.

I expect the mirrorless cameras will displace DSRS at some point. Some of the latest are doing pretty good. Some of the manufacturers seem to still not get that outdoor photography requires a viewfinder or want to rip off the consumer for one, but others are beginning to include it in their cameras.

Actually you're correct. I don't need colors to tell which lens is mounted on which camera.

Perhaps I just like doing it because I can do it. Thanks for your funny positive response.

Eventually smart phones may get as good as cameras, as sensors and other electronics get smaller and smaller, and better and better.

Am not concerned about smart phones replacing cameras. For me there is nothing like the feel of a camera in my hands when taking pictures.

Yesterday I was walking around taking pictures with my DSLR at a fair. There were many, many others using their cell phones. When I lifted the camera up to my eye to take a shot, folks courteously stepped out of my way. One lady, in charge of the fair, asked me to send her my photos.

Two weeks ago I was downtown just walking around snapping pictures. Several times folks asked me to take their pictures.

Cell phone snappers don't enjoy the respect of camera users.

That sounds like a great idea. I can fit my D5200 Red with a tele and my black Canon with a wide angle and be set to go. thank you so much for the idea. And bronze, that does sound nice.

Say mariak, how do you find it switching between different cameras with different controls :?:

I have no problem with these. I too have a Nikon but 300 not the exalted S. I agree with your sentiments.
