What's wrong with your political party?

It seems clear to me the country needs to stop playing the extreme left/right two party blame game (aptly described in another thread as the two-headed snake).
It's time we start electing some common sense, competent candidates (if ever made available to us) instead of these power hungry/money hungry zealots.
Can any Republicans here admit the faults of their party? Any Democrats?
Let's reverse the blame game - I challenge everyone here : could you tell us one thing wrong with your party? What one thing do you wish your party leaders would be more accountable about?

It's time we start holding all of them accountable regardless of party, (which is exactly what they are having, a party at our expence) for what is going on, instead we allow this S^%& to go on by continually re-electing the same to do the same... 3 yr. terms and out if the budget isn't balanced and unemployment isn't below 6% and the economy isn't bustling.

I sincerely wish you good luck with that.
I am a lifelong registered Republican, 3/4 conservative and 1/4 liberal, and I think both parties have lost their way in the dark, because the quality of the politicians have immensely degraded over the years. Any failing ambulance chaser wants to be a politician, not because they have some bright ideas for the country's future, but because they are smelling the gold at the end of the rainbow. All one has to do is to look seriously at the Congress' accomplishments for the past decade. It's nil, squat, nada. While you are doing that, you might chack out their net worth, how much it increased during the same time frame. While the country is bleeding, these clowns busy themselves with trivial crap, that should only be considered when there is nothing else left to do.
The fault is not altogether their's. It also lies with those who put them there.

Political parties ARE what's wrong with this country.

A politician MUST (HAS TO) (IS FORCED) to vote along party lines and AGAINST to other party. Doesn't matter if it is good/bad or right/wrong.

NO politician any longer represents the people, they only represent themselves.

I think the major problem is the deeply entrenched two-party system. Both Democrat and Republican politicians happily work together to keep other parties and non-party independents from rising beyond the political peripheral. Until this lock on power is broken, expect more of the same business as usual - the same destructive national policies and the same currupt, self-serving politians on the ticket.

Short and to the point.

When a new person comes along that does, and he/she is thrown into that mess, they become just like the rest of them.

What we need is the whole 545 replaced.

A very good question. Wish there was an easy answer.

I think the first step needs to be a better informed public. A public that is not spoon-fed by advertisement-driven entertainment news media. Unfortunately not an easy nut to crack.

The problem is your congressman not mine!

Just look at the staying power once vote in.

You have to be a real goofis like Alan West or that guy Walsh to get voted out!

Plus gerrymandering helps keep those elected in office.

The two party system works pretty well when the parties represent their constituencies such as when Clinton was in office. What are we going to do with the surplus?

Just take a look at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_federal_political_scandals_in_the_United_States

BTW crooked politicians today don't hold a candle to those of the past. Remember the Tea Pot Dome scandal or the Truman hearings about cheating the government on gov't contracts during WWII?
