I look around at what has gone on around me and saddened by the fact that common sense has deteriorated to common stupidity, for instance, the pepper spraying incident at Wal Mart on Black Friday and several other examples just jumped into my head. Used to be we gave a damn about what we did, things we did and people around us. Where will we be in ten years?

I'm particularly perplexed about the hijacking issue. I tend to be a rule-follower and have, on a few occasions, tsk-tsk'd people for hijacking someone else's thread. So a couple days ago I read, reread and reread again the Forum Rules and can't find one word from the Admin about it.
Sure, it's common courtesy (which seems to be in short supply!) but is it actually a rule? And if so, can someone please direct me to the specific page it's on??
Even if it isn't an actual "rule" I think courtesy dictates asking permission from the Original Poster, don't you?

There seems to be a general difference of opinion that I've come across examples of in the last two threads I've read.
One was entitled, Gulls Anyone. The original poster put up his shots and they were followed by others showing their shots. There was a mention of hijacking the thread..In my opinion, that is not hijacking...the theme was followed.
In this thread regarding hijacking, I notice that there were posts veering off to the conditions of today..to me, I'd consider the off subject to be hijacking although it may appear to some to be on the same track.
Also noted was someone helping themselves to editing someone's picture seemingly without permission..is that what is considered hijacking? Obviously its breaking the new rules.

highjacking isn't a written rule, it like not typing in all capital letters is a custom that evolved on the first forums. (actually there probably is a masters thesis in psychology for a study on the unwrittten rules of the internet) somebody needs to collect all the rules and publish them. I figure if you show courtesy to other posters, you've got the rules covered.

Saside...I guess fresh from the other thread where I did not understand why anyone would bring up the thread was hijacked causing some confusion in the people who had already posted, had me honed into seeing "hijacking" as the thread topic. Common Sense is a much broader subject.

Satire so doesn't work well in print. I said Warning........ but alas it didn't work. No I think that you are in the ball park. Yes what other people think matters. The golden rule is no longer in vogue.

I'm with you on that-how can someone dare take credit for something they had nothing to do with? I'm in my 50's now, and wonder too, where has common sense gone? I see so many actions taken, things said that are quite imbisillic! Texting and driving just (could) kill me. Parents need to spend more time grooming their children in all the smart ways. Gosh!!!
