I've owned my 7D for three years and love it for my wildlife and sailing photography. Whether I'm paddling in the swamps of southern Mississippi or sailing along the northern Gulf of Mexico, my 7D is with me. Its been in some pretty harsh conditions and has never let me down. I also have a 50D and a 30D (for backup) but the 7D is by far the one I use the most. Good luck with your decision.

You will find lots of praise for the Canon7D,but a word of caution I have had one for 12 months or so but results have been variable, poor mostly and very frustrating.
despite trying the following lens, a 100-400,a 70-200 Mk2 and a 400 DO Prime, all of which were solved by the purchase of a second hand Canon 1D MK 2. I do know of at least four others who also frustrated by the 7d, perhaps it has too many features

I am considering adding the Canon 7D to my bag consisting of the following.
Canon D60, Canon 24-70mm 1:2.8 USM, Canon EF 70-200mm 1:4 L IS USM
Sigma DG 150-500mm 1:5-6.3 APO HSM. My thought is to use the 7d for sports and wildlife. The question is, is this a good choice or not? Thanks

The 7D is rated as a semi-profssional camera and most will agree it is the best Canon makes for sports and wildlife. I don't think you can go wrong with this camera.

A thanks to all that replyed. I am going to wait until the new 7D is released and make a decision then. At that point the 7D may go down in price and I can compare.

Consider a good used 1D Mk III for about the same as a refurb 7D plus a grip and less than the cost of a new 1D. Check out keh.com

I shoot both a 7D and a 5DIII and the 7D is my go to camera for wildlife and action shots. They are both great bodies but the 1.6x crop factor and the fast burst rate make the 7D ideal for wildlife photography.

Have a 40D and a 7D and recently purchased a full frame 6D.
IMHO the 7d has a few more bells and whistles but the image quality will be the same with there being less noise. The 6D will take things to the next level. The image quality is superior and there is much less noise at higher ISO's. Try one for 30 days from Band H or Adorama. Bet you will buy it. Good luck. Steve

If you shoot primarily sports and wild life, I'd recommend the 7D over a full frame 5D - reason - slightly faster frame rate, 1.6x crop factor adds to the focal length (your 70-200 is really 112-320) so you can get closer to the action. I have a 7D and a 5D Mk iii - both are fantastic, but I use the 7D for sports for the reasons noted above and use the full frame 5D for everything else (and sometimes for sports too)!

I am leaning toward the 7D selling the 60D and also adding the 5D Mk III.
Thanks, however this may take a year.

I had the 50D, bought the 7D two years ago. Remarkable camera for wildlife and sports. I was ready to add a full frame so sold my 50D and purchased the 5D Mark lll after trying it out. Absolutely no regrets. Like that the Mark lll is patterned after the 7D in regards to its functions. Made the learning curve easy. Think I can relax now and get on with my photography knowing my arsenal is fully loaded...for now.

Mikeford45 - Ditto -

For wildlife and tele shots the 6D is a major step down from a 7D. 6D is entry-level full frame that would be great for landscape and macro work but not wildlife.

I agree with many here, the 5D MIII is a beautiful camera. Paired with the glass you already have, you'd be set.

The 7D has gone down already. It's $350 less then the $1699 I paid when it first came out.
