I never quite understood what Christians believe they are being 'saved' FROM.
What! are we (Christians), saved from - our selves. And the punishment, we deserve Hell!. Man left to his own intentions is thoroughly, and hopelessly a sinful being. Unable to do any good in Gods sight. So God intending to save some, sent his son to suffer the humiliation, pain, and death on a cross. This Christ took upon himself, to bear the punishment we were due. Shedding his blemish free, and spotless blood for the forgiveness of our sin. And by his perfect life, we are saved through his imputed righteousness. Each sinner receiving Jesus as savior, has his righteousness imputed to him as his own. So when God looks upon old Steve, he only sees the righteousness of his son Jesus, and not my past sins.
Now if I do sin, I have an advocate in Jesus, who stands ready upon my confession to cleans me from all sin. Does this mean I can sin with impunity, as Paul said God forbid. But until we are delivered from this old flesh body, we will stumble, and sometimes fall. But our Lord, is there to pick us up. Dust us off, and set us on the straight path again. However one who continues to live in constant sin, after he professes to be saved. Proves himself, to never have been saved at all. :)
Many are so sh*t scared of dying that they will grasp at anything for an afterlife. Stop worrying ,you will know nothing about it when it happens. It will be like sleeping without dreaming. Put two young children on an island together, they will know nothing about religion or dying. This talk about ghosts is a load of cr*p. Look at caveman, he only knows how to club his father so that he can sleep with his mother. As for the mo boys they are quite willing to die so they can enter paradise. I myself am 90 next month , witnessing many corpses. I bet they are not rejoicing in paradise.

If they felt like you about it, I bet they are not either.

"Predestination really does not constitute perfection, at least not in this lifetime. Salvation does not depend on your works, or obeying rules or the 10 commandments. Since no one can."
Nagy: This is clearly predestination, an idea I consider even more ridiculous than the Catholic idea of salvation through faith and good works.
James 2:14-17: What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Other passages from the Bible justify different views, that is why there are three different major Christian means of justification.

Nut: I don't drink very much. Maybe I should increase my drinking to 1 a day.
Nagy: Careful; you need both your brain cells.

This is terrific sophistry, redefining the nonsense in order to legitimize it.

What James is saying is that if you do have faith and you are a true believer then your faith should show good works. It is not that good works will save you but that your faith will show good works as proof that you are saved.
A football player does not win the game by sating on the side line. He has to carry the ball to the goal line.

You are correct. When I was playing football our coach told us not to eat anything during the game as it would slow us down.
