Is the Bible a legitimate source for faith, morals, history, science, reason?

Regardless of Nagy's motive for posting the question, it points out one interesting fact....it seems that the Bible is something that everybody has to come to terms with....and it helps to have the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It's better to have an open mind and perhaps listen to preachers of the Gospel rather than just university naysayers.

NO! The Bible is based on beliefs and non-proven heresay, which means non-factual...

Is this a trick question, as Jesus and God have never existed surely this is a book of fiction......

Don....Because some of the O.T. may be based on stories passed down through generations (non-proven hearsay), and because it is a book of faith (beliefs) does not logically mean that it is non-factual. In fact, one of the criteria for determining the canon of the N.T. was that the book be written by a person who had known Christ.

The purpose of miracles was to authenticate the messenger (which is why you don't see miracles today). If I recall my O.T. properly, miracles were performed by Elijah and in the N.T. Jesus. I suggest reading the book "Who Moved the Stone." I know your position, but if you have an open mind at all, this is one of the best books that I've read that provides arguments for the Resurrection. Have a good day, Don.

Oh God you had to go and ask this question here. This will start a whole new holy war just like the one that is going on with gun control. There are enough loonies out here already without getting them more enraged!!

My question is simplier...(well..maybe two questions)

1.) Since I already know PNagy's opinion of Christianity and the bible...I'm wondering why he' posts about it? After all...I don't give a second thought to who believes Harry Potter or a Stephen King novel...since they are baseless (just made up) it doesn't mean anything....it has no real significance.

2.) I'd put my Christian worldview up against PNagy's to see who's is more logical to hold any time (assuming he can have a rational conversation without getting personal and keeping the conversation focused and on track...i.e. not doing the "kitchen sink toss" sort of tactic.)

Listen, here is JESUS walking on water

Perhaps one day it will be proven that Jesus was just a time traveller with a sense of humour

JR1...not sure if you are aware of this so I'll mention it. And for the record, I jump on Christians all of the time for this also, so I'm not picking on you specifically, I'm just mentioning it so that you know.

In my opinion, it's bad form to mock a persons most sacredly held beliefs; and for a Christian, there is nothing more sacred than Jesus Christ.

Sure, we can disagree on all this stuff, but where I draw the line (and I'm sure you've read where I've taken Christians to task too) is mockery.

Like I said, you might not be aware of how offensive things like that are but they are. I guess the only analogy I can draw is if I were to mock (for example) your Mom...or someone else that you love....you'd really take offense....right?

We can discuss, disagree, and all that but what's funny to some is not to others...

Hope you take this in the spirit in which it was sent..which is to make you aware of the issue...

And by that standard of proof, no book of history can be trusted...example: nobody is alive that knew ol Abe Lincoln, or George Washington, we cannot verify if anything that they wrote was either the truth or even written by them...basically anything we think we know is non-proven hearsay if we weren't there to witness it.

I agree...this person (Terry Jones) is a nut...and he DEFINITELY is NOT exhibiting Christian behavior...

The fact is...in all walks of life there are idiots who do dumb things that are embarrassing, but that doesn't bear on the claims of Christianity...that doesn't follow.

I can find all kinds of dumb things done by Anti-theists but that doesn't mean that no anti-theist's ideas are worth holding...that's doesn't follow either.

What amazes me is the belief in god/s

I don't believe and never will, I do know that statistically we are not alone in the universe, but people who are prepared to kill because someone calls their god a bad name (sad people) and burn American/british flags because we may have a different viewpoint prove that religion is a joke.

More wars have been fought over religion than anything else and this is proven with the morons in Ireland who still kill just because someone is a protestant or catholic, IT IS THE 21ST CENTURY people grow up.

It isn't the Christians/Buddhists/Catholics etc we need concern ourselves about it is the Mu and Is...

Sorry off topic there

What amazes me is the belief in god/s br br I don... (show quote)

Well..what amazes me is that people can believe that there is no God so I guess to each his own amazement. :)

However...the statistic about how many wars have been fought over religion isn't accurate. Most wars are fought over land, and the claiming of...over other political issues.

And as for killing those who oppose one group's ideas? The flat-out winner is Atheism, in the form of Communism...by far the winner of murdering those who believe otherwise.
