We share the same age and camera. You certainly will not be disappointed with your choice. Get the GOOD glass to go with it! Welcome to the 850 Club!
Oh, and I had 2 D850 camera bodies, never changed lenses in the field...the dust is brutal!
Our Safari trip was in August last year. Using the Nikon 200-500, the default settings were: 1/2,500, F5.6 and auto ISO. This was our guides recommendations. Worked well. You were always ready for the birds and there are plenty of them! For the still or slow moving animals, I dropped the shutter speed, but had to remember to get back to the default setting...the preset buttons come in handy! Have BIG Fun on your adventure!
Have purchased a D850 via eBay....no problems. Look for low clicks, do your comparisons for price and mostly don’t be in a hurry! Lost about a dozen bids before I got my price...worth the wait. Been two years and never had a problem.
Have used B&H many times. You can trust B&H. Always fair and always deliver in a timely manner.
Without border is more dramatic!
Rich, good question. Just traded up from my 610 to the 850. Quantum Leap for all the reasons that are being listed. Don't foget you need massive size storage and fast cards!
Just go out spend the money and put a big smile on your face!

I got on Nikon's waiting list but they cancelled the order after 30 days. Next best bet was Best Buy...it worked, the 850 arrived in 4 weeks. Now learning how to use it!!!
An excellent camera...ordered a refurbished d610 from Nikon two years ago, works great, have had NO problems. They fixed the leaking oil issue from the d600.
Perhaps they don't have the cash and need to use a credit card. Or, an easy way to accumulate points for their next purchase! Paypal makes it an easy transaction.
