I think, through the ages, where cats and does lived together, and I think cats might be a tiny bit smarter than dogs, that cats developed a special appeal for people similarly brighter than your typical dog owner. Cats seem to maintain just enough "aloofness" to show you that they do not give a hoot about you but then surprise you by jumping on your lap and going to sleep. Dogs just slobber all day. Cats kill mice. Dogs kill cats. (Hey folks, am an early riser and do my best to provide the world with a sense of humor. Kevin

And I thought that I lived in paradise. Had no idea that Australia had so much beauty. Spent a month in Alice Springs at the 'you know what' place. Currently I live atop the BlueRidge at the easternmost tip of WVA. Hint you might make more money renting it as a getaway. And with your expertise of the area, include a guide book for photographers. It might even include guides on where the best pics are for each season.

Been on FAA for about three years. Sold one item , Tshirt, providing me with $2.00. Never even bothered to collect it. I found only one interesting feature. Every day, you can review who looked at what in your inventory. What's the purpose? Just amazed that their are views from all over the world. If you really want to sell your stuff, you can start with one of the leaders, SMUGMUG. I have not done so since I can code my own web sites including accepting PayPal or Square. Smugmug is not the only service so you can search for them. Basically, they provide you with a VARIETY of web site formats. You then upload your stuff and set prices and print formats etc. It's a no brainer and you get something that is quite professional. At the other extreme, learn how to code, create the look and feel of your web site, incorporate PayPal or Square, pay for a secured web site certificate. And after you are finished the experience, go into the web site development business instead of photography.

I've always loved dogs. Even when I also had a few cats. Dogs would love you back. Cats would show you their back. A few years ago, a friend found a cat in his garage. He offered the cat to me and I accepted it. After a few weeks, took it to the vet and found it was neutered so was not feral. I did pay a bundle since he had some kind of a gum or tooth problem and most had to be removed. Anyway, cost over $500. But I get repaid everyday. He causes no problems, jumps into my lap at tv time, stares at his food dish if am late, poos in the litter box, and curls up next to my face in bed, and licks my nose in the morning. Now, diagnosed last week with a thyroid problem and is on a test med to see if it can be controlled by the dosage. If not, hospitalized for several weeks with a nuclear implant...VERY VERY EXPENSIVE, THOUSANDS. I hope not.

Ok being a Sunday and always try to convert something serious into something funny...the first digital camera I bought was a classic Nikon F with a Photomic T Finder. Your comment might be, if you go back that far, it was not a digital camera. But I can then argue, I held it in my hand and used my digits to make adjustments.

Yes, it could be the focus area. When I shoot in auto, I see markers that adivse me where the camera is focusing and making settings. Normally it is quite a spread. This since, one never knows when one is going to grab the camera for something that is transient. So if your sensing spot is just one point and it happens to be on a very dark part of the car, it will overexpose the rest of the car or if on a bright part, the snap will be too dark.

Thanks for the advice on disk duplicators. I'm an engineer and can read specs. I even have a patent on converting "dot matrix" printers into optical scanners. This was in the 1970s. I demo'd this to Centronics, Epson, Mannesman Tally, Digital Equip Corp (DEC) and this would the typical comment..."who would ever want to put pictures into a computer".

All great advice. And it is obvious that a nice tent with a professional look is VERY attractive and hard panels are the answer. I am not sure I want to do this arts and crafts thing. I am in Loudoun County VA near Leesburg. There is an annual arts and crafts tour where people drive to "homes". My neighbors do wood turnings and have done upwards of $15K on the weekend. We also have a local fair in Bluemont and I have been "juried" into same. I think doing the sports racing photography is the least trouble some with the potential of very good sales.

Here in the DC area, we have the Dulles Expo Center which hosts all types of shows, guns, arts and crafts, etc. Very Very Expensive. If am not mistaken one photo booth told me over $1500 for the 3 day event. But he said his sales (about 3 years ago) were around $4000. But he also said that nationwide sales were down 50% from prior years arts and crafts shows. I am not sure I am ready to blow that kind of money, plus the travel expense (even though I am considering a used 24 ft RV. However, I have found a new concept at sports racing. I was a paid photographer in the 60's by McMillan Ring Free Oil ($1 per transparency) as photog for our racing team running a Lola T70. At almost every SCCA, SVRA etc, race event there is one or more photographers selling prints for $30. What they do is in between race events, they "process" and print samples and hang them out to display. Drivers then "order" a quality print. What a waste of time. Instead, I am taking a different approach. Yes, I shoot the classic straight pan freezing the car with the blurred background. Then move to a different part of the course and shoot cars head on coming through a turn (usually shows one or more tires just off the pavement). Also during non race periods, I walk around the paddock and shoot pics of crews, working on cars, chatting, dining, etc. Each evening, I process the days shoot. Then, on the last day, if I got it right, I burn DVDs if I can. If not, I mail the DVD to each customer (who has prepaid). Whats the benefit. For that same $30, they get a DVD with everything and can print whatever they want (along with a copyright warning on the DVD). Even better, I will be using the RV as a dining room, process lab, and bedroom. And having a ton of fun.

I just received two mesh tarp samples, one tan and one dark green. I had already made S hooks using #14 copper wire. I had cut the S hooks using ordinary wire cutters. But that creates a "knife edge". I am going to try using a stone to make a point so that there is no chance of cutting the plastic mesh. However, if you would like a nice inexpensive indoor hanging method, I found that some hardware stores carry various sizes of a fine chain very similar to that used in old clocks. I spent about $50 for 50 feet of a gold plated chain then cut them into about a 7 foot length. I make a loop at the top and use an S hook to close the loop. Then I can hang pics at any location. Do not try this outdoors on a windy day unless your tent has "solid" walls. Seeing pics wobble in the wind is "very tacky".

Been on FAA for nearly three years. Sold a T-shirt. I use it as an international museum and expect nothing from it. The only feature I found interesting was to look at the visitor log. Fortunately I know how to write HTML and have created many web sites over the years when I was selling my own software products. For non-coders, I think SmugMug might be a good choice but there are others. Still, you need to do your own marketing.

Crows are VERY smart birds. PBS featured a program on them. A university professor discovered that crows can recognize people by their face. In addition, crows were tested for their ingenuity in the use of tools. They put food inside a cage which required several different kinds of obstacle along with "tools". The crow pecked at what might have been a door but could not open it. The
crow then found a suitable tool to prop the door open. And so on, eventually reaching the food. The crow noted that there was a hole in an area opposite the food and then found a way to push the food to that hole. Amazing. (Our new president has not demonstrated any of these logical abilities.)
