I'm heading to Antelope Canyon this week and planning on visiting the lower canyon. I'm taking my Nikon 5100 and I'm not going to bring a tripod. I am curious to see what you think might be the best settings to use. As an aside I'm claustrophobic and I'm hoping they won't get in my way.

If you want to do the photography tour, I believe a tripod is mandatory.( it is at the upper) The lower photography tour is much less expensive than the upper.

Does anyone on UHH own and use this filter? I am looking for some personal recommendations for or against it. How long has Breakthrough Photography been in the filter business? They make some bold claims and I am wondering if we might have some actual users here who have thoughts on their results using it. I am not interested in brand comparisons, just this filter. TIA

I don't have that particular filter, but I have two of their ND filters that are excellent, very well made, very neutral color cast, much better than my B&W filter. That particular filter will be my next, no reservations at all.

I used to shoot Raw file with Nikon D750 and am looking for a RAW file format editor.
I am thinking about PS Element 15 or Paintshop Pro X9 Ultimate.
Only my short experience for PP is with Faststone Image View. But I want to start with more powerful software
Please help me to decide which one is better choice for me to start with.
Thanks in advance for your shares and advices.

With my 750 I use ACDSee, free 30 day trial, very user friendly, I also use PSP X8 but not for raw conversion. It works well for me, I never got into the flow of photoshop or lightroom.

If you haven't been there you will want to check out Rt 128 along the Colorado, the scenic way back to Rt. 70, and the Lower Colorado Scenic byway, Potash Rd, among other places.

I'm looking for a reasonably priced table top tripod that will hold 6+ pounds.

I've seen a number of tripods that rate close to six or right at six. How critical is the maximum load? The heaviest weight I can imagine for my uses is just an ounce or two over six pounds; a Nikon D7100 with a Tamron 150-600 (yeah, I have a plan) so maximum height is an issue as well. For most of my work I would be using a 60mm, so six pounds would be more than sufficient.

Suggestions, please?

this looks like a neat product and is in my wish list at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LY0GALG/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1WR5671BP5A35&coliid=I3DRR2RS5CWJB1

You are welcome. You can walk up a trail at the end of the View also, plus the hike around the
mitten I couldn't do because of me needing a new hip that I now have.

Heading to Monument Valley 2nd week of March. Previously took one of the Navaho guided tours and would like to do so again. There is quite a list of "approved" tour companies. I'm wondering if any of you have some insight into the best tours for photographers. Any specific info would be greatly appreciated.

We used the Navajo Spirit Tours twice 4 years ago and they were wonderful, this past year we used Dineh Bikeyah Tours as a last minute deal, they were also great. Monument Valley Sunset tours are good, but also is the Mystery Valley Sunset Tour. The View Hotel has great views, we love the food and service. Check out Valley of the Gods, just north as well as Muley Point and Goosenecks State Park. All are in the area and worth the visit if you have the time.

I have begun planning a driving tour down the Blueridge Parkway and Smokey Mountains in mid to late October this year. I have found that UHH has excellent feedback on sights and interesting "must see" areas no matter where we venture. We can do mild hiking. I believe lodging may be a problem if I don't begin planning now. I have perused the Internet , but feel like a personal touch of those who live there or who have gone before is invaluable. I look forward to your comments and thank you in advance.

We haven't done a lot of traveling on the Parkway but between our North and South trips we like to stop near Meadows of Dan at the Mabry Mill, a must see. Within two miles is a very nice motel and restaurant, the Woodberry Inn, along with a restaurant at the mill that is often crowded. It is East of Hillsville off of Rt. 74 South of Rt. 81.

I just called to book the Photographers tour for our trip in May. I was told by Dixie Tours and Ken's tours that they will not run the Photographers tours from March through late fall.

I'm booking the Upper Canyon tour, but the cost is 3X...

We were there in early Oct. last year, the Lower photog. tour was a joke, the Chinese come in by the bus loads and the tour operators can't keep up.
My guide tried, I did get some decent shots, but it's hard for the guides to keep the hordes of people out of your way. Four years earlier when we were there was a completely different story. The upper tour seems so much more organized, I took that tour but not the photography so I could go with my wife. No tripod allowed unless you take the photographers tour. Horseshoe bend is crazy for sunset nowadays, I went for sunrise before the crowds, the clouds worked to my advantage to even out the lighting and I was very happy with the results. Page is just crazy anymore.

Hi, I've been using BBF on my D750 for a few months now and I've become quite accustomed to it. My question is.... well... trying to figure how to word this because I could be all wrong.

Clearly I can press the AE lock button (BBF) and then recompose and shot. How about metering and recomposing the shot? I mean, I'm using the AE lock button for focus.... how may I lock exposure?

Oh geez!

I have the 750 and use back button focus, and often expose by half pressing the shutter, then I can recompose to the shot I want with the locked exposure. Play around in the house and you will see it's simple.
