"74 Corvette with factory spoiler and factory luggage rack.
I use PM exclusively. Very fast and intuitive. Import directly from card, view at up to full screen, delete or instantly double click to move to LR or Photoshop for processing. Than save to folder on hard drive. Very happy with this sequence. Cannot stand LR imports.
Love those birds! My pics were taken in the Galapagos last year. What a wonderful trip on the National Geographic Endeavor with it's complement of pro photographers! Just a few of over 4000 images taken!
endangered mockingbird
silver winged gull
frigate bird
red footed booby
frigate stole fish from gull on ground. gull got pissed and took off after frigate
you put your left foot out!
in my experience, Photo Mechanic works best!
If you have a Mac, you don't need LR. I gave up on its catalog years ago. First step: I copy my camera card folders (raw images) immediately to my external hard drive. Next I launch PhotoMechanic5, a wonderful cataloging program. It is blazing fast in opening up picture folders and will find them anywhere on your Mac or any and all external drives. From there I decide which ones to edit. One click opens them in PShop. Once edited, save them back in original folders or in newly named folders. Can't tell you how much happier this program has made me!! Give it a try!
Can't see doing street photography without an articulating screen. Just saying.
It's probably El Capitan. I had to restore my hard drive to pre-El Capitan days using time machine. Neither PS or LR worked on my 10 yr old Mac Pro.
The computer and video card therein must support two monitors. What you have open on each monitor depends on the OS. I'm not familiar with the PC platform, but with Mac, only your imagination limits what is open. When I post process, I have Photo Mechanics open on one screen, and Photoshop on the other.
Take the extra room AND spend $$ on a good set of noise canceling headphones, either on, or in-the-ear. They will do the most to prevent flight exhaustion
An absolute MUST in my mind. The drone of the plane's engines is what causes most of the "jet lag " syndrome. Noise canceling headphones, even without music, prevent that noise from getting to you.
Have you calibrated the focus on your 5D III and your 100-400. kits are inexpensive. You could also send the camera and lens to Canon repair to have them do it. May be helpful and inexpensive before you invest in a new lens. Can also try a friends lens on your III to see if results are the same, and your lens on another camera also.that being said, I have the Canon 70-200 2,8 II, the 100-400 II and the 28 to 300 f4, The sharpest of all on my 5D mark III is the 28-300.
Jim: What results are you unhappy with? What are you using it for. In my experience, Alaska cruise images are mostly landscape and/or animals. We saw almost no animals on our cruise-tour, and your 100-400 is not a good landscape lens. Is it the camera, the lens, or technique that is making your results unsatisfactory?
Burt: had a home in Avalon for 32 years. These are striking! Thank you!
Vue Scan works fine with my 4000ED. I use a FireWire to USB cord (Amazon). My Mac recognizes the scanner. Still tack sharp after all these years.
No problem with weight. I took my 5Dd Mark III, and my Sony a7R. Both fit into a rubber pouch for the off boat transfers. This with the 100-400 L IS USM. My wife carried her Sx50. This is a once in a lifetime trip and you don't want soft images. You need the 400 mm. for all the birds and my wife's Sx50 was very soft in the extended ranges. Most of all, have fun.
Give Photo Mechanic a look.
