I have transitioned to a MacBook Pro from a PC. I post-process with Lightroom, but my desired PP workflow has been to first download images, quick 'full screen' vet and then import into Lightroom.
in the past, on a PC, I used free FastStone Image Viewer (quick, full screen viewing) and would like to see what Hoggers would recommend as an alternative to FastStone. Yes, Lightroom Users will recommend that I not 'add' a step in the workflow and may suggest I import immediately to Lightroom, close left/right Panels & ToolBar , go Lights Out and vet images there, but the FastStone type preview is desired.
Thank you, Bob

MAC has preview built in that can view RAW files although not particularly super fast it does work. Many however seem to like ACDSee
Bob, I have a MacBook Pro and use Lightroom also.My work flow is from card to a picture folder and then import into lightroom. You can view that folder in your Mac as it ha a RAW image viewer. I then back up that folder that I imported to two different back up drives.I am a convert also and love my Mac compared to the PC(quote=Bogin Bob]I have transitioned to a MacBook Pro from a PC. Pixel: I talked to Apple Care Photo Team (well one rep) and found they do not have RAW Image Viewer like FastStone ... where I can scroll through images on a folder and quickly delete a non-keeper.
Apple Photos can ... but only JPEG and when I re-looked at Preview on the Mac - I can open one by one but very slow.
PS: our work flows are quite similar ... download or import into a Folder, scan/vet and import to Lightroom. I still like folders and use Collections for 4-5 Star Keepers
Is the viewer you refer to allow scrolling through a set of images quickly?
Bob, Go toFINDER, PICTURES, click on the folder you want to see in RAW. Then on top you will see 4 choices for VIEW. Click on the 4th one. Voila...you will have on the top all your raw images to view without waiting.

Take a look at the Fast Raw Viewer. It has features which make it easy to really evaluate your raw images right on the card and delete them from the card before you import directly into Lightroom. It works like a charm and saves you from importing images which you just have to delete later. Its a time saver if you have a high volume of images to go through. I use it on my laptop and on my iMac.

I import to a folder, then use Adobe Bridge. Seems pretty fast to me.
So do I, Adobe Bridge works great for me.
I never used it , but I hear Photo mechanic is a great program for the first run through and culling.
Fast Raw Viewer looks like what I am looking for!
Thanks everyone for the fast feedback

No so!. Select a range of images and all selected will open. It is not fast!
I recently started using the Browser in OnOne's software to review and rate my raw files before importing to Lightroom. Really fast load and preview.

I use a program called Lyn for OSX. It recognizes the ratings of imported photos in Lightroom, not sure if the reverse is possible.
I agree with the On1 suggestion. The standalone Perfect browse by them may still be available.
