I have interest in purchasing a Canon 7D Mark 2. I am wondering if anyone has experience utilizing this body for street photography.

I do not shoot sports-action or birds (the primary use of the body) but may want the option

I am currently using a 5D Mark 3 for the body of my work with a 40D (10 years old) as a backup.

The 40D (in my mind) is still an exceptional body and I go back and forth often utilizing the crop for candid portraits

The other alternative is to purchase the 5D Mark 3 but at $1,000 plus a bunch of "stuff" the 7D Mark 2 is a good deal

Any input will be appreciated

If you would be using the new body as a back up for your 5d3 why not go for a 7d original. A new one goes for less than $800. Still a great camera.

I have this camera and like it a lot, but question whether it's the best choice for street photography. Small and unobtrusive works better on the street. The 7D MII body weighs two pounds, and is the largest DSLR I've owned to date.

I agree with your thought, but I have all those Canon lenses.
If I could sell them at a good price, I would purchase a body that is more in keeping with street work, but the "hit" is just too painful lol

How about the Canon M3? With the adapter, it can use your APS lenses, and it weighs 13 ounces.

Your statement need some clarification. EF lenses are Canon lenses that will work on any Canon body. Your next statement indicates you are looking at another camera that you think will not be compatible with your lenses. That could only be a non-Canonc camera?

Correction - meant to say EF lenses. The M3 Adapter works with both EF and EF-S lenses. Here are links to an apapter review and Amazon showing both the M3 and the adapter. I would add that I have not used either one, but still thought you might want to be aware of the option.

Looks like the price (on Amazon) is now $69.99 new/$48.00 used.

Great price for the Mark2. I have a 60D and 6D, both are griped. They have Optec pro straps. Even with a short prime I feel very in you face. I can't justify the expenditure but would feel better using smoothing like a Sony 600/Nex6-7 with a short prime that is fast. I keep think I shall run across something at budget price.

This is the only thing you need to see. Shot in a heavy fog Saturday with a 7Dii using a 70-200 f 2.8 IS ii lens @ F4 1/800 100 ISO @ 200mm. Must download to appreciate. The 7Dii is an amazing body for the price.

For street photography I would consider the "tiny" SL1. It will work with all your lenses, weighs a fraction of the full size Canons, and produces excellent images. Plus it can be had for less than $400.

Thanks for the input

Have you ever investigated the Ricoh GR11 for street photography?

The 7DII is going to be roughly the same size and weight as your 5DIII. Your 5DIII will perform better at high ISOs than the 7DII even though the mark II is much improved over the original 7D.

Why is the 40D not a good choice for street? Why isn't the 5DIII a good chose for street?

The best deal is not buying what you don't need. Should you be looking at a low profile lens for the 40D like either the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM or the EF 40mm f/2.8 STM?
