Does your computer have a license for Win7? What brand is it?

I have a number of Win7 Pro DVD but they are for HP computers that came with Windows 7 originally. They won't work on other brands or even HP if the computer didn't originally come with Windows 7

I have Dell machine .... thanks

The question I have is there a known process but unknown to me that I have somehow discovered? Even if similar I find a proper term or name helps so much.
