Recently updated my Mac and all went well until I started to use it and discovered the program iPhoto was gone as well as my 13000, photos. I feel really sad because of losing all valued photos, my search for a photo program to replace it is needed, iPhoto was a basic program, it had basic editing features, folders for saving photos by category,
info on each photo when editing, the photos it produced were excellent. Looking for a replacement that is stand alone and NOT Apple controlled. Also if anyone knows of a method or a company that can retrieve my lost 13000 photos please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I suspect you now have two libraries.

If the library you'd like to import into isn't already open, quit Photos, press and hold the Option key as you open Photos, select the library that you want to import your photos to, then click Choose Library.

You might try the Option Key suggestion to see if you can find your iPhoto Library.

Also.....Applecare will help you, they are very obliging. #800-275-2273

I plan to spend two weeks in Maine in late July. Are there any "Must See" photographic stops that you recommend? Either well-known or along the back roads.

Thank you!

Walk the Marginal Way.....also have a "Lobsta-roll" why you are there.

I just purchased a Nikon D500 camera from KEH camera that looks like new. A friend recommended this camera and KEH. I want to get a back up battery. Any recommendations for off brand batteries, other than Nikon or should I stay with the Nikon battery?? Thank you.

I bought OEM Nikon Gray Market, it has been fine.

Trying to stay focused on intricate layer masks training--changing backgrounds on group family portraits.

I want to be certain I have the proper "best in class" tools.

My go to trainer uses the Nightsword others like the Mac/Apple Magic Mouse or Kensington Expert Mouse.

I think it is really my lack of time testing & trying with my Kensington.

Any thoughts here?

Thanks so much!

Got a new camera to me, loved my D300s, D7000 not so much, today got a D7100, seems good. any thoughts, warnings, suggestions as I learn it"s quirks?

A great resource cheap enough, used book for a used camera.

I like my D7200 but miss my D7100.

I shoot with Nikon, use Adobe Photo shop elements 2023 and it does not have lens correction capabilities. How important is lens correction in post production? Will it make my images better?

To do this choose Filter > Lens Correction in Photoshop and then click the Custom tab to access the custom tools. In Photoshop Elements choose Filter > Correct Camera Distortion.

This image is from Scott Wells...He uses a Nikon z9 with a 600mm lens...I have a Nikon D850, D500, and am using a Sigma 150-600 lens...is it every possible to get this level of sharpness without a mirrorless camera and a prime lens? These images are amazing...

I like yours better!

Over sharpening does not look real or natural......IMHO

With a monopod and a reasonably steady hand you should have been able to use 1/40s or even lower. But as you say, a tripod would have meant you could use ISO 100 (assuming that there wasn't enough wind to move the branches and lights).

By "true HDR" do you mean exposure bracketing as opposed to in-camera HDR (which gives jpg only)? When using bracketing hand-held you need to watch the shutter speed for the brightest exposure/s. For a +2 exposure the shutter duration will be four times what it is for the 0 exposure. For hand-held shots or for shots with movement within the frame it could result in camera shake or motion blur. A tripod would take care of the camera shake (but not the motion blur).

It's possible that the banding and the purple tint are both jpg artefacts. Are you aware that even if your camera is set to shoot raw it will give only jpg if you're using in-camera HDR?

I have taken in-camera HDR's--jpegs, I did not for this shot. I would like to try a true raw bracketed HDR and build a composite, a good goal for 2024. My other 2024 is becoming proficient in layer masks and using the refined edge tool with edge detection. Thanks for the good ideas! Damn should have taken my tripod....lazy me. Would-a, Could-a, Should-a.......photography real-time.

I tend to underexpose such shots in essence (shoot for the highlights--so the lights don't overexpose) and then manipulate the shadows & black point as needed. This shot concerned me due to the vertical banding on the left and the purple hue on the right in the trees. I have shot HDR's in camera but probably should step over the safety line and try a true HDR. I use Elements 2023-4 for PP-ing my Raw Images. Camera Nikon D7200, 35MM f/1.8, f/6.3, ISO 800, 1/80 second handheld. Should have brought my tripod instead of just my mono-pod, which I used, would have allowed for native ISO of 100. I did want the silhouetted walkers as shown.

Any thoughts?
Suggestions?

Thanks so much,

I'm looking for suggestions for an on camera flash modifier. I would like something small but effective and easy on and off. This would be for indoor photos with walls and ceilings less than ideal for bounce flash.

Trying to up my efforts and would like to check & calibrate my internal monitor.

Suggested equipment?

Process as shown in the Sonoma 14.1.2 software?

Most of my efforts are posting images on shared photo albums, my viewers are using iPhones or equivalent.

I print occasionally and hard proof.

I PP JPEGS with Mac Photos and raw images with Elements 2023.

77 year old retiree from the paper & printing industry trying to keep up.

Thanks!

Someone online was driving a relative's car, and the battery went completely dead. He couldn't close the windows or lock the car, so he had to stay with it. He called AAA, and the guy said the battery was beyond help, so he bought a new one. I had never thought about a dead battery preventing the windows to close or the doors to lock.

I carry one of those little ni-cad battery jumpers in my car.

I swap out auto batteries on the 4th year whether they load test ok or not as a JIC. Same should be done for whole house generators, where 90% of the no starts are due to bad batteries.
