I prefer the color from my D300, but like the pixel count of my D7100. It is sharp enough to satisfy my usage; the lens makes a big difference. So I bought a couple of back up bodies, rounded out the lenses, and enjoy picture taking. It fits with my dislike of home brew moving pictures.
If you care, there is a menu's worth of refined settings. Hope you got a manual.
A proven disadvantage: it is NOT waterproof.

I wonder what you found wrong with the D7000. I have one and I have been entirely satisfied with it. The 7100 has 24 Mp. compared to the 16 I have (enough for my needs) in the D7000. Most probably the AF and buffer are better also.
Incidentally, I have a book by David Busch on the D7100 in like new condition if you are interested. Just shoot me a private mail.

D7000, D7100, D7200, and the D7500 served Nikon very well. These camera's will give pro results in the right hands. The D7100 is a great camera designed to allow the photographer to capture fantastic images.
Again, any camera is only as good as the hands that operate it.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

The D7100 readily served us with thousands of shots! It was damaged, uneconomic repair, when it collided with another camera's L-bracket while running out of a deluge from a geyser when the wind changed.
I used to shoot with a D7100. Great camera! I used it primarily for wildlife photography and it never let me down! When I went full frame, I gave it to my son. About five years ago. He still uses it and it's still going strong!
For a 24MP DX camera released in 2013 and discontinued by 2015, hopefully, you didn't pay much for this DSLRosaur in 2024. That said, once cameras reached the 24MP threshold, this is pretty much all the best they need to be, whether they have a mirror or not.

I have both the d7000 & d7500 and found them both to be very capable. Especially love the d7500 using it with my Nikon 18-300.
My threshold was equaling Kodachrome 64 using same lens.
Agree that around 20_24 mp cannot see difference
I had a D7100, used it for a few years and then gave it to one of my kids. Seriously missed it.
My D1x is long gone. I gave away 2 D300s to members here years ago.
I own a D500, D850 and a few Z bodies.
My D7200 still gets at least as much, probably more, use than any of them. With a grip sometimes, but mostly bare. It's light, not too big, and fast enough for most of what I do.
But, all the cameras I have are fun to play with. And for me that's what photography is all about.

First thing that struck me was the weight or absence of it. Super light, fast auto focus. With 18-55 kit lens it weighs almost nothing. I have a battery grip on my 300s and 7000, but may leave it off for this body to keep that low weight. Have only taken a couple pics, just got back from vacation and I am wiped, but so far I'm happy with what I'm seeing with 50mm !.4D in aperture priority
Don't like the buffer of this D7100, it's slow and limits the amount of shots. Make sure you use fast speed SD cards, it may help. I think once you had D7000, you should try a D7500 or a D500 if money allows. 7100 is not much better than 7000. Good luck with your new toy.

I went from my D3xxx series to the D7100. Learning curve!
But not much of one. Goto youtube for settings help. Wonderful pictures.
When I traded it for a D600, there was no problem. My hands knew what to do.
AND it's a NIKON!!! Your lenses will work right.
