Does anyone know if selective coloring can be done in Aperture?

Blue-eyed monster! Yup he looks like a trained killer! Ready to rumble!

Really pretty, pretty photograph. I absolutely love it. Perfectly done!! It's very pleasing to look at. Now I need to learn how to do selective coloring and play around w/ that technique. I hope it's not too difficult.

Great, great, beautiful pictures! The blues and greens along w/ the incredible detail of the heron and its lunch make these pictures so nice to look at. I too live in Western Washington and I also shoot w/ a 7D and 100-400mm but I haven't gotten shots quite this good. Looking at your pictures inspires me to go out on a mission and photograph great blue herons. There are plenty near where I live but I don't think I could do your shots justice.

But I'll try;-)

Yes. I also have a 7D and enjoy shooting birds in flight. I use back button focus ALL the time. It is a VERY handy tool and once you get used to using this technique, you'll probably use it all the time. Get used to disabling autofocus from the shutter release button in the "menu" and "re-enabling" it. You'll find you can re-enable it very quickly if you need to and then disable again when you're out photographing birds. It it very easy once you find in the menu where to do this and it'll become second nature.

Also, it may take a little practice getting used to focusing w/ the AF-ON button but eventually your thumb will instinctively go right to the button. Also, initially don't be surprised if you forget to use the button a few times. I was out photographing bald eagles and was shooting a sequence of an eagle landing it a tree. Perfect light, beautiful landing, nice and close to me. But I was new at using BBF and I FORGOT TO FOCUS! So I had a great sequence of an eagle landing in a tree at 8 frames per second....BUT they were all out of focus. Once you get used to using BBF, you'll love it.

This technique is also very helpful photographing other subjects when you don't want the subject in the center of the frame (ie using the rule of thirds). Focus on the subject using the AF-ON button then take your thumb off the button, compose your shot and when you take the photo the autofocus won't go off trying to focus on some other bogus point in the way off background.

Brenda O'Malley is home making dinner, as usual, when Tim Finnegan
arrives at her door.
"Brenda, may I come in?" he asks. "I've somethin' to tell ya".
"Of course you can come in, you're always welcome, Tim. But where's my
husband?"
"That's what I'm here to be telling ya, Brenda. There was an accident
down at the Guinness brewery"
"Oh, God no!" cries Brenda. "Please don't tell me."
"I must, Brenda. Your husband Shamus is dead and gone. I'm sorry.
Finally, she looked up at Tim. "How did it happen, Tim?";
"It was terrible, Brenda. He fell into a vat of Guinness Stout, and
drowned."
"Oh my dear Jesus! But you must tell me true, Tim, did he at least go
quickly?"
"Well, Brenda, no. In fact, he got out three times to piss."
