SQUIRL033 Loc: Chehalis, WA

this great blue heron was fishing in the shallows near the boardwalk at my favorite park this afternoon... and when i say 'near the boardwalk', i mean like 15 feet away! i had to back the zoom off to 190mm to get him in the frame! he caught himself a fish and enjoyed some nice, fresh sushi! ;) 7D, 100-400L, 1/500 - 1/640 @ f/7.1

It amazes me how they can swallow a fish, whole like that!

Great, great, beautiful pictures! The blues and greens along w/ the incredible detail of the heron and its lunch make these pictures so nice to look at. I too live in Western Washington and I also shoot w/ a 7D and 100-400mm but I haven't gotten shots quite this good. Looking at your pictures inspires me to go out on a mission and photograph great blue herons. There are plenty near where I live but I don't think I could do your shots justice.
