Are there any good wildlife and birding opportunities in the area?

Check the focus lock switch. I have inadvertently turned it on during a shoot. Thought I had a serious problem.

I recently bought the same lens. Had similar problem. You need an HB39 lens hood. The tulip is cut to work with the 18-300.

I am ready to pull the trigger in a 200-500. Also need a back pack or other recommendation to carry the 200-500, another lens or two and at least one body with some misc gear. Are there any recommendations or thoughts?

Take a look at Caseair from Tether Tools. I have it, it does work and it does RAW. I believe I paid about $ 160 for it. Works with my iPad and iPhone may work with android.

In addition to the above mentioned adjustments you could try applying a graduated filter and use the erase brush to remove it from any areas the you do not want to be affected. This give you the ability to make more localized adjustments in Lightroom. All of these adjustments can be applied in various combinations and are non destructive. Any or all of them can be removed or adjusted further if desired.

I just looked on Amazon and found white rip stop fabric for $ 5.09 - $ 5.59 per yard. The white sheet would also work well to diffuse light.

Well I don't see any real issue with any of the images. I saw several I wish I had taken or had the opportunity to visit the location to shoot my own pic.

I use an 18 - 140 on a D7200 as a general portrait lens with great results. I have used the same lens on two other camera bodies, 3100 and 3300 also with great results. Originally I bought it for studio work but have found it stays on the camera most of the time. Focus has rarely been an issue even in real low light conditions. I just wish it were 2.8 or 1.8 when I shoot indoor events.
