Been Looking for a Tethering App

Been looking for a decent tethering program for my two cameras (Nikon D7100 and D750) that work on Android (Galaxy s5 phone and Galaxy Tab A (2016). Right now I am tethering the D7100 with an OTG cable and the D750 with WIFI. It seems like qDslrDashboard is quirky but works ok for the D7100 if you only want jpeg. I have tried Helicon Remote free on WIFI for the D750 and am so far impressed with the features and simple interface but it only supports jpeg. I am considering just biting the bullet and getting the paid Helicon Pro for the RAW capabilities. Before I put out the money would anyone with experience with these two programs (or others) give me some feedback?

Have you looked into "Control My Nikon"? I use it with a lap top but I would be surprised if it didn't work with an Android. It's not free, I paid $25.00 and for what it can do that seemed cheap to me.

I have Helicon Focus and Helicon remote. I tethered it to my MacBook with an OTG cable. It works fine for indoor work—but is not ideal for field work. The WIFi plug-in device required for my D7100 is very disappointing. One thing to consider: You must use AF lenses because that’s how you set the beginning and end point for Focus Stacking. I have not used it in other applications, but I believe AF is required for all remote applications. FWIW, I now stack using Zerene and find it superior to all other stacking software. It was designed by a photographer so perhaps that is a factor. I take it your D750 has built-in WiFi. Personally, I will never buy another camera without that feature. I use it to copy photos to my lap top from my Fuji.

I don’t know which version of Helicon I have but it does work with RAW.

I have had so much trouble with ViewNX2 I really didn't consider Nikon products. Perhaps I am shortchanging myself not looking at this specific Nikon product. Thanks for the suggestion.

Great input! I am ok with wifi as I am planning to use tethering primarily for night photos and I will use the D750. The issue with auto focus is another kettle of fish. I will check that out with the free version of Helicon to see how it all works together. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Paid tethering I'd recommend CaptureOne. Nothing touches it.

I looked at your link to petapixel and it in turn had a link to digiCamControl. While the petapixel article mentions phones and tablets the digiCamControl site only mentioned a windows computer for tethering up to a camera, no mention to Android phones or tablets. Also it did not mention supporting RAW. It makes it doubtful it would meet my needs. Thanks for the suggestion.

Just looked over Control my Nikon and the write up only mentions support of Windows PC tethering. Looks like a really good program but does't seem to meet my needs. Thanks anyway.

Thanks, I am still looking but it seems like most free programs that work with Nikon only support jpeg. Hopefully I will find a magic bullet and get what I want for free. Somehow I doubt it but is is worth a little research.

I have to agree Capture One is impressive. However the $299.00 for one license price is a bit out of my range.
