Another option you might consider is to rent an automated slide duplicator from a company like SlideSnap Pro. I contacted them a year or so ago and I think they said they would rent me one of their machines for $300 or so for a week. They don't list rental rates on their site as they primarily sell their machines. I've never used their device so I cannot comment on ease of use or quality. But this should allow you to process a lot of slides in a short period of time.

Check out Picture Information Extractor (PIE) by picmeta. I think it will do the export of metadata that the OP is asking for.

Mickley,

Here's an approach that should give you a live positive on your computer, which you should be able to then project.

Position your negative on a light box.

Position your camera or camcorder over the negative and focus on the negative.

Tether your camera or camcorder to your computer and use some software to view it live on your computer.

Then, use the accessibility settings on your computer to invert the colors.

This will give you a live positive image of your negative, but it will not be color corrected.

You should be able to use VueScan to do a batch conversion of your scanned digitized negatives. Here's a link to an Instructable that I wrote on how to do this:

Another option is to scan the images in sections with a scanner and then stitch the photos together in post-processing. On Windows machines Microsoft's free ICE (Image Composite Editor) program does a pretty good job, but there are other free stitching programs available.

Msmith is correct - most scanners can scan multiple photos at the same time, especially if you use VueScan. On my Epson V600, I can scan 4 photos to separate files in 15 seconds at 400 dpi using VueScan. I've written an Instructable to show the details of the process.

An Epson VT 600 will scan multiple photos at the same time as single images. The length of time for a scan is, in part, a function of the image quality setting. BTW, other printers will do the same thing not just a VT600.

The link below explains how you may quickly and easily convert your digitized color film negatives using a $40 software application. The resulting images are much better quality than those obtained by using the Invert command in most photo editing programs.

This youtube video shows how to make digital contact sheets from your film negatives using a digital camera.

I made this youtube video with the help of a friend who has some experience in filming and video editing.

Questions/comments/suggestions for improvement for either the video or the conversion process are welcome.

How many shots at what exposures did you use for each of these pics? Or did you create these from single exposures?

Dan,

Once you've got your pictures organized, you can use a program called BreezeBrowser Pro to print contact sheets with picture metadata and page numbers. The number of picture columns and rows is editable. You can download a trial version and check it out.

I have Adobe Master Collection and access to Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge and InDesign. I would like to (first) categorize all of the photos on my system (nearly 800,000) and then print the categories into individual books or catalogs with numbered pages. I need to produce multiple images (about 9) per page with the image name below each one and have page numbers and the catalog name appear at the bottom of each page. I cannot seem to figure out how to work these programs together to get the proper desired results. I cannot get the programs to add page numbers nor a desired page layout. Anybody with suggestions would be most welcome to respond.

You may want to try a program called Photoline, developed by two brothers in Germany. It has most of Photoshop's capabilities at a lot lower price (~$90). It will also run several (but not all) Photoshop plugins. Try it for 30-days and see what you think.
