I suspect those of you who are serious about your craft have now discovered the geniuses at adobe won't ship free standing Photoshop programs anymore. It appears you have to sign up for an outrages amount of money EACH month on their eponomously named CLOUD program to use CS-6. I crashed my computer and have to find a new photo editing software. Have any of you used Corel? and if so, how does it stand up to Photoshop CS-6

I use Corel but have never used Photoshop....I like Corel it gives me what I want and have not used all that it can provide. I've used Corel since who knows when, the price works for me and I have no complaints.

On the 4th Corel Pro x6 will be out for the public...you can either download the x5 version now and try it out or wait for the x6 version to try...they have a 30 day free trail, which will be good for you to see first hand how it compares with Photoshop.

Here is a link to a current discussion on Paintshop Pro x6: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-143111-1.html
Thanks GP

If you do the math CC isn't that expensive. Annual cost is $240 based on monthly cost of $19.99 with I believe a 2 year commitment. I paid $300 for CS6 Extended Student/Teacher edition, which I don't qualify for any more. Now if I were to buy it the price would be $800. If you buy the new version every 2 years you are way ahead of the game using CC.

That said, PSP doesn't hold a candle to PS CC or PS CS6.

Depending on the level of post-processing you do, you might look at DxO Optics Pro - I've been using it for about a year now and it meets all my admittedly low-to-mid level needs. It doesn't support layers and have all the fancy bells and whistles of a Photoshop, but then again, you can learn it without the need of a 600-page manual. It is very good at fixing lens/camera aberration, geometry and other arcane problems as well.

I has been a very long time since I used anything Corel. In recent years I only used Corel WordPerfect....
Anyway, since you are already familiar with PS, have you considered PSE? Version 12 should be out this month.
I have used it since version 5 and am still happy with it, although I do not upgrade every year.

First off The PS tech from wherever told me my internet service was too slow. Then he hung up on me. I do not live in the middle of nowhere but I can see it from here. If my bull's back gets itchy, my dial up service goes down.

I signed up for satellite service and I was back in business. The problem is the cost is $10 per gigabit. The way Adobe updates the program, several G of band width is easily eaten up each month.

The Creative Cloud function is an intensive use of band width. It seems like all services are going towards CC. This holiday season I dread the bill, what with all the devices the family can't live with out. And if you are wondering, there is no cellular service here at the homestead.

Not true. You don't have to let cc do upgrades automatically. In fact, I never let it do upgrades/updates until I hear that there is a new feature that I want. That said, I have not done a single update. You don't have to use the cloud storage either. These are all choices you can make. If you don't use cloud services or do automatic updates, you don't use any band width what so ever.
