Here's a one seat car that will get you back and forth to work on the cheap.

This $600 car is not a toy; it will be ready for release in China next year.

The single seater aero car totes VW (Volkswagen) branding.

Volkswagen did a lot of very highly protected testing of this car in Germany; it was not announced until now where the car would make its first appearance.

The car was introduced at the VW stockholders’ meeting as the most economical car in the world!

The initial objective of the prototype was to prove that 1 litre of fuel could deliver 100 kilometres of travel.

Its Spartan interior does not sacrifice safety; the impact and roll-over protection is comparable to a GT racing car.

The aero design proved essential to getting the desired result.

The body is 3.47 meters long and just 1.25 meters wide, and a little over a meter high. The prototype was made completely of carbon fibre and is not painted to save weight.

The power plant is a one cylinder diesel, positioned ahead of the rear axle and combined with an automatic shift controlled by a knob in the interior.

The Most Economic Car in the World will be on sale next year.

Better than Electric Car – 258 miles/gallon: IPO 2010 in Shanghai, a single-seat car, from conception to production, 3 years. The company is head-quartered in Hamburg, Germany. Will be selling for 4000 Yuan, equivalent to US$600.

Gas tank capacity = 1.7 gallons (6.4 Litres)
Speed = 62 – 74.6 Miles/hour (100 - 120 km per hour)
Fuel efficiency = 258 miles/gallon (0.9L per 100 km)
Travel distance with a full tank = 404 miles (650 km)

I assume this price is only in the country of manufacture and the emissions standards are for that country only. I sadly think this price will skyrocket after mandated improvements are installed (like day time running lights) and VAT is added as well as import shipping costs from China.

Do they also have a "COFFIN HANDLE OPTION" when serious accident happens? LOL.

This morning when I started my computer all my desktop icons except Lightroom 5.7.1 and the Recycle Bin.

What is Lightroom trying to tell me??

After reading your thread and your responses to your problem, it seems you have numerous difficulties.

1. You obviously never set up your automatic backup since the OS said there was none when it was attempted. I would immediately activate the backup feature for WINDOWS and make a restore point that works for you. Then set up a schedule for future periodic and regular backup points to be stored so that you have a fall back point in case of some HDD disaster or failure in your system.

OVER AND OVER, I SEE USERS WHO DISREGARD THE ADVICE GIVEN HERE ON UHH NUMEROUS TIMES ABOUT MAKING A BACKUP OF YOUR COMPLETE SYSTEM AND PLACING IT IN A SAFE LOCATION IN CASE OF DISASTER.

2. I assume the last program you ran before shutting down when this incident occurred was LightRoom. When you shut down, the system obviously did not store your desktop settings and icons in the boot registry and moved them to a file marked DESKTOP. This could also be caused by some virus or a corrupted boot file. Run your anti-virus program and scan the whole computer (All Files and Folders).
This can also happen if you have a corrupted FLASH DRIVE that contains a virus or malware in a hidden file. It will install this virus every time that FLASH DRIVE is inserted into your machine and accessed until it is wiped clean by reformat of the complete flash drive. Then, check to see that the drive is blank before using it again. There are some really good programs that do a double write to a drive while reformatting for complete security such as ACRONIS 2015

3. May I suggest you purchase the book "WINDOWS 7 Inside Out" which has description of all of the intricacies of the WINDOWS 7 OS and it is MICROSOFT SANCTIONED. The new version of this manual for WINDOWS 10 will be released in December if you intend to upgrade under the free offer.

I looked for a local MICROSOFT STORE in your area but none was listed for South America. Therefore, you really need some reference book containing troubleshooting guide for the OS you are using or have lots of cash to pay a computer geek to fix your computer on a regular basis. All MICROSOFT STORES do have FREE clinics that will rid your machine of hideous and unwanted programs that are simply headaches waiting to happen. MALWAREBYTES or another ANIT-VIRUS and MALWARE removing programs can help but here again, most virus and malware programs are installed on a system by foolishness of the user. I use AVG, MalwareBytes and Hitman PRO (but not running all of them simultaneously) to automatically scan my machines on a regular basis and maintain the virus definition library for those programs up to date. If you are a subscriber to these programs, they will automatically update every time you boot up and access the internet. I also have a FIREWALL.

Those remote repair techs that charge you $350 or so for repairs and they never actually touch your machine are mostly scams that download a one time usage scan routine and virus removal program into your machine along with a remote access ability. If that remote access is not completely removed, your machine can be remotely accessed and your data can be stolen or corrupted by a hacker.

I hope this advise sinks in and is utilized or you will find yourself in DEEP MERD eventually.

Grainger has this item but the smallest they sell is 1 ft. length.
HARD TO FIND? No WAY...you just need to know where to look and for only $8 for the section of Aluminum Sheet Stock, you can make both an unpollished 4" X 4" X 1/4" plate and the 4" X 8" X 1/4" plate out of one order costing $8 plus shipping.

Here's the link Jerry:

Jerry,
Many years ago I proposed my friends and I start a church called "The Church Of The Holy Buck" which handled investment accounts, applied a minimal management fee, and would return interest into each parish member's account annually. Investment and portfolio direction would be discussed and debated in open church meetings and all contributions are considered a tax deduction since it's a religion to worship PROFIT and THE HOLY BUCK. And your Wall Street Journal, MONEY and FORBES magazines are religious material.

I can just see the HOLY BUCK MASTERCARD and DEBIT cards now with a large "$$$" as the religious insignia icon boldly displayed on the cards. LOL.

Hey, it sure beats giving your money to some scam artist preacher who spends it on his personal LEARJET and ROLLS ROYCE and 100,000 sq.ft. mansion.

We never really applied for tax exemption status but from what I've heard about IRS regs on religion, I think it might actually fly. There's no law making IDOL worship illegal.

Well if he was just drafting a letter when the INTEL GRAPHICS CHIP failed, it sure wasn't being overtaxed or working hard at the time.Typically it's the CPU that shuts the system down from overheating. Sounds to me more like his power supply has problems, but that's also a MOBO item on laptops. I sure am glad that the GForce graphics and memory come on a separate daughter board on my ASUS G750 and according to my temp scanning software, the components indicate they run very cool for being such a high end gaming machine. But ASUS did redesign the cooling path and vents out the back.

I raise my lap tops with a bit of 2" x 3" timber for ease of use placed underneath towards the back. I had not thought of the cooling - but it does elevate the computer in much the same way - but it still fried! :-)

Geez, what CPU and graphics chip did you have in it? The old PENTIUMs and AMDs did generate some heat. Normally, just elevating the rear or using one of those USB powered Laptop cooler gizmos does the trick.

Was your internal fan working? Typical problem with many laptops is they get dust and crud in the heat dissipating radiator and need a good cleaning or the fan quits working.

If you’ve upgraded a PC to Windows 10 — not performed a clean install, but an upgrade — you’ll have an easy option that lets you revert to the last version of Windows. To access this, open the Start menu and select Settings. Click the “Update & security” icon and select “Recovery.”

You should see a “Go back to Windows 7″ or “Go back to Windows 8.1″ option. Click the Get started button to get rid of your Windows 10 install and restore your previous Windows install. Microsoft will ask you why you want to go back.

If it’s been over a month — or if you’ve run the DIsk cleanup tool and removed the “Previous Windows installations” files or deleted the C:\Windows.old folder by hand — you’ll no longer see this option. Windows 10 appears to automatically remove the old Windows installation files after a month to free up space.

There seems to be a lot of people who assume WIN10 will solve their system problems and registry screw ups. This is not the case and any virus or infection your system had under the previous OS will only be migrated into WIN10 during the upgrade process unless the system has been cleaned by a good antivirus program before the WIN10 installation.

Also, updates will continue to improve the WIN10 OS as they get downloaded and installed. This includes your video card drivers and print drivers and patches for many older programs designed for 32 bit XP machines.

Give the installation a few days or a week to settle all of these issues before deciding to revert back to your previous OS.

Most PC installations of WIN10 upgrade go without any problems and the new OS can be easily converted or changed to almost any look you prefer.

The 2 books that will give good instructions for WIN10 are being released September 20th on Amazon. They are:

Inside OUT WINDOWS 10
and
Windows10, the missing manual

My brother-in-law, who is a computer expert, he owns his

Win 10 Pro and paid $140 for it.

If your system now has WIN7 PRO or WIN8 PRO, Microsoft will download WIN10 PRO instead of the standard HOME version of WIN10. This was posted on all of the BLOG sites and is advertised on Microsoft's website as well.

Why pay for something that they are offering to customers for free?
BTW your relative/computer expert should have gotten an unlimited license version of WIN10 PRO if he intends to use it for installation into multiple machines. He's going to run into problems when the installation tries to update and discovers that the key number has already been utilized in previous machine installations.

Thanks AlTheMan and Warrior. Both good suggestions which I definitely will check into.

From what you've presented here, you should have no problems with USB or SATA and eSATA drives. And your video is standard INTEL Integrated system so the drivers are available and automatically downloaded during the WIN10 installation process.

The complications typically come from secondary supplier add-ons like video cards and interface cards, but you have none of these so you should be fine in your upgrade to WIN10.

As NIKE says: JUST DO IT.

The problem was that the desktop was blinking on and off. If I opened an app. say Excel, the app didn't blink but the desktop continued to blink.

I went into safe mode. I googled the problem and others have it but there didn't seem to be any one solution.

I rolled back to Win 7 using an image I had made with Macrium.

You also might have gotten an update for your anti-virus program or your video card which required the machine to reboot to install the link into the boot directory and boot log. Not all updates come from Microsoft, so you can just reboot the machine to resolve most problems like this. Doing a simple "RESTART" will do the trick in most cases..

BTW, I'm still searching for a good book on WIN10 but it seems it will take another few months to get anything descent published and available for distribution or sale. When I find one though, I'll post the info here on UHH. Typically, Amazon has these books almost immediately after they come off the presses.

Thanks, Dan821. Please excuse my ignorance but could you help me to understand what is meant by the phrase "clean install?" Perhaps you could direct me to an explanatory link to save time and trouble?

Thanks again, lhardister

"Clean Install" means you wipe your old boot info and OS from your drive and install WIN10 on the clean sector. Easiest means to accomplish this is to use the FLASH DRIVE or DVD download version of the ISO and execute the installation from the FLASH DRIVE or DVD instead of downloading the ISO to your temp file of the HDD and doing an upgrade from the present OS to WIN10.

This method of doing a "CLEAN INSTALL" or "VIRGIN INSTALLATION" will eliminate all the junk in your boot directory and registry but it also means you need to re-install your programs and recover your personal files from the backup after scanning them all with a good antivirus and malware program. It does give new life to slow machines that have been bogged down with background junk programs, cookies, viruses and spyware that can be carried over to the new OS if it's not deleted.

I have a HP 15 with 4 gigs of ram. Thanks a lot. Ronny

Once your machine boots up, it has a preliminary page that appears. Just hit the RETURN button and the program will bring you to the LOGIN for your OS. I don't know why MICROSHAFT put this page in as an opener, but it's there so we have to live with it.

Once you log into WINDOWS, you should check your settings by hitting the START BUTTON and then SETTINGS to adjust your particular systems characteristics, graphics and peripherals. I would also recommend you go to the WINDOWS UPDATE section and check to confirm your system has completed installing all of the latest updates. If you have a dedicated video card, also check for the latest drivers on that company's website.

Also, the first chance you get, try to up your RAM to 8 gig and you'll be pleased with the speed improvement you'll get from this cost effective upgrade. New machines will automatically recognize the installation of added RAM. It also will improve the longevity of your hard drives by reducing the swap files usage and access during program processing and execution.

My thoughts are that if you can find a computer with 10 already installed, it will save you from the trouble(and pain for some) of having to do the upgrade yourself.

I'm not sure if I'd buy a Dell though. Traditionally, they have so much junk loaded on their computers that it slows you down.

My custom dual-core 2.4 system ran circles around my mother's quad-core 3.0 Dell.

If you're not a gaming freak, then SPEED in a computer has more to do with having a 64 bit OS rather than a 32 bit OS and definitely how much RAM you have installed. Quad core CPUs and above are designed to handle multi-threaded programming.
And on any machine, try to rid the machine of all the background bloatware that manufacturers install on new machines.

Any new machine having WIN7 or WIN8 can be upgraded easily to run WIN10 under the MICROSOFT FREE UPGRADE PROGRAM. Just be sure that your machine has minimum of 4 gig of RAM (8 gig shows the best cost effective processing speed) and check if your CPU is X86 or X64. (X86 is only a 32 bit CPU)

Also, WIN10 is the newest and most supported OS for WINDOWS machines and will be supported via constant updates and improvements automatically for the HOME version and is user selected or rejected for the PRO version.
It's also a lot smarter to begin using a machine with the drivers compatible with WIN10 and run that OS if you intend to hold this machine for any length of time. Present longevity of WINDOWS OS versions machines seems to be about 7 or 8 years before support is stopped.

Sometimes, paying the extra few dollars up front for a machine able to support the 64 bit OS and comes with more than just basic minimum amount of RAM and no video GPU (like INTEL's Integrated Graphics) will greatly improve your machine's performance and your enjoyment in using it. Why be "penny wise but pound foolish"?

Hi Easyrider. When you upgraded to Windows 10 did it give you options to either down load an ISO image file or make a bootable flash drive? It would have been around 3gigs.

It's a little bit larger for the 64 bit version and if you download both 32 and 64 bit ISO's it takes up almost 8 gig. If you didn't use the FLASH or DVD installation process and record the ISOs, then you're shit out of luck unless you clone the original drive. However, when updates are issued, MS will interrogate your machine for valid key number and if you haven't got a multi-user license, they could ban you from downloads or install some system blocker into your machine and halt the OS completely. This is why they recommend you record your WINDOWS KEY NUMBER and the install program ISO gives you the option to change the KEY NUMBER for other machine installations. Each standard copy of WINDOWS is licensed for a desktop and a laptop (2 machines owned by one user) under a single license and KEY NUMBER.

The multi-user version for institutions costs 4 times as much as the basic HOME or PRO version just for this reason. After 2 machine installs, the old WINDOWS used to notify MICROSOFT and you'd get a notice that this copy of WINDOWS is unauthorized during the update process of the installation.

NO...you're looking at this all wrong. If you want "SCREW FORCE" as well as DOWN FORCE, you'll need another kind of crew to add rotation to the fray. Very effective for pile driving, but labor costs will double and rotational vector handles need to be added to the jig.
