Newfoundland is a wonderful place! It offers many opportunities tor photographers of all persuasions. The scenery is magnificent, the villages quaint and the people wonderfully friendly. We spent four weeks there a few years ago and it was not nearly long enough. On the way to St Anthony's we saw 14 moose and a caribou in one morning. I want to go back and spend a whole summer there. An RV is probably the best way to seen the province.

We spent 2.5 months and it wasn't enough either. One couple on the ferry took their 5th Wheel over for only 3 days! B&B's would be another good way to go but, I agree, RVing Newfoundland is the best way.

These are more shots I got this summer in Newfoundland. We were there for about 2.5 months in our motorhome and loved it. We saw what I call "Horsehead Iceberg" near St. Anthony's in the north in June. L'Anse aux Meadows is also near St. Anthony's. It is a known landing site where the Vikings established a Norse settlement on North America around the year 1000, way before Columbus. The structure in the shot is a reconstruction of what is thought to be there living quarters. Fascinating place with very knowledgable guides. The last shot is an Atlantic Puffin on an island near Witless Bay.

You are in one of our favorite places. We were just there in November. Love to sunset colors in this shot! Really nice!

I had the same problem - I didn't like Mac Photos at all. iPhotos was ok. I went to LR and so glad I did even though I didn't do it the correct way. If you do, learn the Library part of LR well and figure out what of organization you want to use before you start importing lots of photos. I didn't but I did manage to straighten out the mess I made.

I keep all my photos on an external hard drive through LR. I have a folder called old scanned photos and one called old slides. It is easy to import photos from My Pictures into folders like these. You can probably even set up folders in LR the same as you did in MP without needing a bunch of key words to find them. The added advantage as I see it is you can now work on old photos since they are in LR.

If you hike, try a place called Hanging Lake in Glenwood Canyon. Signs tell you how to get to the parking area. Beautiful lake up there with a frozen waterfall in winter. There will be snow on the trail so go prepared. Also lots of good shooting in Summit County. I lived there for 20 years. Maybe try getting up to Montezuma if you get a good, clear day. Enjoy the mountains!

I didn't even see the sundews until you pointed them out. We. Saw pitcher plants everywhere in Newfoundland and lots of them. There is an area in Gros Morne called Tablelands where rock from the earth's mantel is exposed. It is a beautiful and interesting place but does not provide good soil for growing most plants. Pitcher plants are all over these rocks. We did not see that many sundews but we did see some. We also saw some beautiful orchids growing up there and Newfoundland has to be one of the great berry picking areas of the world. Bake Apple, Partridge or Lingonberry, crowberry, you name it I think they have it mostly growing very low to the ground.

I have a Canon 5D MII with a Canon 100/400 lens and Canon SX50. I haven't had the 5D too long so it is a single lens camera for the time being.

I guess I don't see the lines you are talking about unless you are talking about the vines in the leaves or flower which are natural for the plant.

One of our favorite stops in Newfoundland last summer was Fogo Island. We took our motorhome, car and four people on a 1-2 hour ferry and camped at the base of Brimstone Head in the town of Fogo. Brimstone Head is one of the four corners of the earth if you happen to belong to the Flat Earth Society! We climbed it in a Nor'easter and it was awesome! The shorelines were breathtaking. The bogs were just full of life. Once again, the people were awesome. We were invited by a local to go cod fishing so we took him up on it and caught some nice cod. On the way back in, we saw a beached rare Sowerby's Beaked Whale that was still alive but he didn't make it. Togo Island even has its own resident billionaire who has built a hotel for the people of Fogo near Tilting. Quite a place in spite of the weather! Here are a few shots. The Pitcher Plant shown is a carnivorous plant that loves it here in poor soil. It doesn't need good soil because it digests bugs and even small animals which get trapped in the tubular leaves at the base. We saw a small frog in one waiting its demise! A little sad but that's nature!

I use my Canon SX50 for birding sometimes instead of my 5D. It is good for IDing birds that are a long way off with the 1200mm zoom. I do not like the SX50 viewfinder, however, and that can be very troubling while birding.

Sounds ridiculous! Might be time to vote for a change in the county government! We travel full time. I have seen a few places that don't permit photography at all for various and usually understandable reasons. One that comes to mind is Hopi Indian restrictions at dances and ceremonies. I get that! But a county park, $5 to shoot and no posting? Come on county commissioners!

One thing I like about P is it remains pretty much fully automatic but I can set a single focus spot which I like for birds and wildlife. Ever try to focus on a bird in a tree and you end up focusing on everything but the bird? There are a few other things you can do in P that are not allowed in fully automatic.

First off, I have to say UHH is my favorite photography learning source ever, especially while I have finally been learning how to use Lightroom the correct way for me. Thank you all for the tremendous help I have received. Now for my next questions! I've been posting some of my Newfoundland photos in UHH recently and I am not sure I am doing it the easiest and best way. I am choosing the photos I want to post and exporting copies from LR to the My Pictures file in my iMac. Then I load them onto my post in UHH from My Pictures. First, I wonder if UHH could be set up in the Publish Service along with Facebook, etc? Second, I wonder what size photos and resolution I should be using when posting to UHH? I'm including two Newfoundland shots posted in my usual way for discussion in case it may help.
