I use the the eye-fi Mobile X2 with my A77. Shoot in Raw+JPEG.

The card moves my JPEGs to my iPad for immediate review.

I don't use the card to move Raw to my computer. Much to slow.

Sony used to have a 500mm f8 (fixed) mirror reflex lens. I have one and it is truly and amazing. This isn't my best moon shot. Can't find that one right now! Isn't it always so!

Use the same 2 light setup as photographing any flat object, straight down with the lens and a light to each side at 45 degrees. Shouldn't need a polarizer this way.

Thanks, I'll start with you suggestion and see how it goes!!

The cases are sealed by the coin rating association. Opening them would greatly decrease the value of the coin. Good idea, but not a option in this case.

I would think that the coins should be taken out of the plastic case (using medical type gloves), laid on black velvet and using tent of bounce lighting would be best way to show any detail...

To shoot thru those plastic cases would be next to impossible to do...

I am about to embark on a long put off project of photographing a coin collection. The coins are all encased in sealed hard plastic cases about 2 X 3 inches in size.

I think the challenge will be avoiding reflections on both the plastic case and the coin itself.

Any technique suggestions would be most appreciated.

I'm guessing a light tent and a len with a polarizer would be a good place to start.

TIA for your advice.

My Zeiss 2.8 / 24-70 seems to have a mind of its own when out in the cold. Cold being mid to low 30's. Auto focus is at best erratic. And even when manual focusing, it often will not take the picture.

Anyone else have this kind of experience?

There is an iPhoto preference that can be un checked to prevent the auto load. It lets you pick which program opens when inserting a card.

iPhoto stores it's pictures in it's library. To see the actual Raw photos. Right or Control click in the iPhoto library. Select show package contents. This should open up the file structure. From there it is up to you to find folders with correct or similar dates. Your original Raw photos will be there.

I just found an old iPhoto Library. After the control click and show package contents I searched that folder for .ARW and found all my raw photos.

You might find a folder called originals of something like that. I now longer have iPhoto on my computer as I much prefer Aperture.

Create a folder on you desk top and navigate to it from Bridge.

Or as I do import them into Aperture

You should find the iPhoto library in the Pictures folder in your user account.

Best to you. Randy

I've asked this question before. Not here though and never gotten a straight answer. Maybe someone who know will respond.
