My Zeiss 2.8 / 24-70 seems to have a mind of its own when out in the cold. Cold being mid to low 30's. Auto focus is at best erratic. And even when manual focusing, it often will not take the picture.
Anyone else have this kind of experience?
Many AF lenses have this problem in the cold, primarily zooms. I have one Tokina that I love but +40 degrees is its cut-off point. I have used my Nikons down to -40 degrees and they have all kept performing well.

Come on now it wasn't -40 in the car was it?

It was when I started it!
Here's one for you, my Kodak Z990 P&S has a super zoom 28-840mm. When I was trying to shoot the other day in 28 degree weather... it would start....stop....jiggle...then as I was ready to take the shot, it went full zoom all on it's own. Right out to 840mm, when I was at around 50mm.
I warmed it up and it became sane again....and so did I.

When the temperature goes south of about 50ºF my body doesn't want to work either! Love your part of the country but don't think I want to winter there.
