I was just wondering how people use their camera with dual card slots. Now I understand for paid jobs you would use one for backup (option #2), but for just shooting around, e.g., vacation, parties, general shooting, etc. What configuration do you use:

1. Auto switch (when one card gets full switches to next card)
2. Record to multiple cards
3. Only record to the selected card

I use Option 1 on my D5 and my D500.

Hello, kinda new to my d500 was using a d200 for years. My question is how much rain would you expose the d500 to before I should worry about it being a problem for the camera? I am using sigma lenses and nikkor lenses with it. Last week was a light rain when my daughter was playing in the marching band and I decided not to bring the camera out cause it looked like it was going to rain hard , and it was a light mist instead. So I missed some very good pictures.

I am very conservative and I always use a camera rain coat to protect my camera and lenses when I use either my D500 or my D5. Just me.

the rain covers are very inexpensive, two for around $5.00. I would rather be safe than sorry.

Sorry, that is incorrect!

If you are going to tell someone that they are "incorrect", at least tell them what is correct.

Rubbish. The very act of recognizing the scene or the object and focusing on recording it, imprints the memory in your brain. I not only recall the scenes clearly, I can remember the various efforts I put into photographing it like how I climbed that hill, got wet in the surf, waited forever for the animal to look at me, how I raced to the scene so I wouldn't miss the sunrise or sunset light. I remember the scenes and objects vividly because
I was intensely engaged. I also have the added bonus of a photographic record of it to enjoy repeatedly for all time and to share the moment with others.

No, YOU do it. I have done it with better photos than these, and you still persist. Go ahead and superimpose them and SHOW us. I assume you are just gazing at these simple examples for your judgment. First mistake. More importantly, shoot a downtown scene or such so you get some depth. As I wrote, if you want to shoot a chair (or desk in this case) at 6 ft. your whole life, you don't have to worry about perspective distortion very much.

As to the horrid snark about spreading information, just refrain from your personal insights and stick to facts please.

Sorry Andy, but here is one article that says changing lenses changes perspective. You wanted one from Bob, and I decided to help.

The boxes are assets when it comes to reselling the camera. They add value to the resale price and make packaging easier. (especially if you have kept the "eggshell" filling material).

I fill my attic with empty boxes.

I agree, they definitely add value if you sell or trade-in your equipment when upgrading.

Once I bring my photos into LR, I page through them, flag the obvious losers and then delete them permanently. I see no point in keeping out of focus, poorly composed, or just “meh” images. I know I’ll never try to salvage them.

A friend of mine has a Nikon D850 when she bought it new the Best Buy clerk told her that her VR lenses from her D7200 could be used on it. I read the D850 Manual, and it does NOT list the VR lens for being used on the D850. My thinking is that she will have to buy new lenses for her D850. Anyone know for certain? Thanks

The absolute answer is Yes, you can use the same VR lenses on your D850 that was used on the 7200. If the lenses are DX, then the D850 will go into the DX mode.
