My Epson R3300 finally quit. I am considering buying the Epson P600. Any comments on this printer or suggestions for an alternative? 13" x 19" output suits my needs.

Epson was one of the first ones out with pigments based inks and many, including me, had problems with nozzles clogging requiring lots of ink to get them clean. If I let the printer sit for a few days, it would take a good 1/2 hour and a lot of ink to get it working again. The new UltraChrome archival inks, like the P600 uses, has pigment encapsulation technology and I have heard most of the clogging problems have been resolved. Since then, Epson came out with Claria dye based archival inks, probably to have products that can compete with the very popular Canon photo printers. Dye based inks don't clog as easily, which is one of the reasons Canon has been so popular. I've had an Epson Expression XP-15000 which uses Claria inks, for several months now and am pleased with it. Besides the difference in inks the P600 uses 9 cartridges, which should give you a higher quality print, especially for B&W, compared to the XP-15000, which is a 6 cartridge printer. You might want to compare the printer prices and ink cost / print before making your decision.

I have had a P600 for three years. I wouldn't consider anything else.

My Epson P800, same family as P600, is the best printer I have ever owned. No problems at all.

If you want longer lifetime for your prints, you should use pigment inks; The pigment-ink Canon is the PIXMA Pro-10; it is also frequently on sale (through a mail-in rebate). I have one and am very pleased with it.

Before getting my P800 I did a lot of reading.
I came across this article. Tuns out the price difference isn't as much as it seems when considering the extra ink included with the 800.
In the long run the P800 is much cheaper to run as well.

The Canon Pro-100 is usually available with a large rebate. Do a search.
