I have a Manfrotto 322RC2 ball head. Since purchased about 4 years ago, I have been disappointed. If the ball head is unused for a few minutes or longer, it seems to lock in position and is most difficult to move. Does anyone else have this ball head and do you have a similar problems? If so, have you solve or have you replaced. I have email Manfrotto and get to response.

Does anyone use a ball heat that they are completely or very happy with. I would like your recommendation. Panorama shots are not that important when considering a ball head.

I have the same one and it is fine. You may need to run some greese or oil on the ball and free it up a bit!

It seems that many Mac users keep their images on external drives. Why is that? Is it because their internal drives are smaller than on Windows machines?

Maybe one reason would be that as you fill your computer drive up the computer get slower and slower.

Below is a pic of a lily where part of the yellow petal is all white, due to the reflection of a bright sun on it. In looking at the pic with my naked eye, the petal was all yellow, i.e., the left side was not burned out. Yet when viewing the pic thru my camera, the left side was almost fully white, just like in the below pic.

I tried full exposure compensation, but no reduction in the extent of the whiteness. This is the pic that came out of the camera - in Photoshop I tried to darken that area to bring out the yellow, but had no success.

Is this phenomenon something we are just stuck with, or is there something that can be done when taking such pix to minimize this effect of the sun's reflection (other of course than taking it at a different time of day, on a cloudy day, etc.)? If relevant, I took the pic with a relatively inexpensive bridge camera (Canon SX-40HS.) Thanks.

You could use HDR of say 5 images or more and then blend them in photomatix. Need a completely still day for this though. Or you could shoot on a cloudy day or use a diffuser that will act like a cloud. This could be a sheet of perspex or even plastic bags

Hey Gang ,
Anyone have a good technique for shooting into the sun.
Thank you,
Ray

Do you mean directly into the sun or just generally shooting contra jour with the sun in the background to halo the subject? If shooting directly into the sun use ND filters. If the later then make sure you expose for the subject best in manuel exposure then shield your lens from flare.

The problem is sharpness. I am willing to try anything you knowledgeable folks can come up with. If you have mirror lock up, use it as that mirror can cause blur in the shot. Also use a reasonably fast shutter speed as in this shot of 1/250th f/6.3 iso100 . It is also important to use a tripod even with fast shutter speeds.

and that is something I thought I would never say!!!

my files out of my d800 are {around 12 MB's} when I put them in a PScc then into NIK {google} the file will go all the way up to 128MB's {or more} Now the problem! I use an online canvas print place, the files cannot be any bigger than 60MB's.
1) if I crop I loose my part of my pic
2) if I "save for web" it is under 1MB {afraid this will not print well}
3)I changed the resolution from 300 to 100, made minimal amount of difference.
4) did an online search and really did not give me a lot to work with, mostly informed me to do the "save for web!!"
any help would be appreciated!!

You could try sending the file to your desktop and then reimport it. That usually gives you a lot less MB file size.

Not sure how to start with this, or even if the title is accurate. My (almost) 2yr old looks exactly like my wife when she was 2. So for my wife's birthday, my mother inlaw got a 10x12 picture of my wife when she was 2. I mean the resemblance is incredible. Anyway, I'd like to do something with the picture of my wife (at 2) and my daughter who is turning 2 in July. This is WAY beyond my beginner level, but I want to do something. (obviously I know anyone can take a picture of a picture) What I want a pro to capture is the...I guess the inoccent's (sp?) of my wife's picture at 2, and my daughter at 2.
I guess what I'm asking, is can this be done? Actually, I think I want advice on what I can do with a pic of my wife at 2 and a pic of my daughter at 2.
As always, all advice greatly appreciated!

It is important for EVERYONE to know, and understand, what an infidel is and what it means to your family.

WHAT IS AN INFIDEL?

This is a true story and the author, Rick Mathes, is a well-known leader in prison ministry.

The man who walks with God always gets to his destination.
If you have a pulse you have a purpose.

The Muslim religion is the fastest growing religion per capita in the
United States , especially in the minority races!!

Last month I attended my annual training session that's required for
Maintaining my state prison security clearance.

During the training session there was a presentation by three speakers
Representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths,
Who each explained their beliefs.

I was particularly interested in what the Islamic had to say.
The Muslim gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam, complete with a video.

After the presentations, time was provided for questions and answers.
When it was my turn, I directed my question to the Muslim and asked:

'Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that most
Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad [Holy war] against the
Infidels of the world and, that by killing an infidel,
(which is a command to all Muslims) they are assured a place in heaven.

If that's the case, can you give me the definition of an infidel?'

There was no disagreement with my statements and, without hesitation,
He replied, 'Non-believers!'

I responded, 'So, let me make sure I have this straight. All followers of
Allah have been commanded to kill

Everyone who is not of your faith so they can have a place in heaven.

Is that correct?'

The expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to that of a little boy who had just been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.'

He sheepishly replied, 'Yes.'

I then stated, 'Well, sir, I have
A real problem trying to imagine The Pope commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Dr.Stanley ordering all Protestants to do the same in order to guarantee them a place in heaven!'

The Muslim was speechless!

I continued, 'I also have a problem with being your friend when you and your brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me! Let me ask you a question:

Would you rather have your Allah,
Who tells you to kill me in order for you to go to heaven, or my Jesus who tells me to love you because I am going to heaven and He wants you to be there with me?'

You could have heard a pin drop as the Imam hung his head in shame.

Needless to say, the organizers and/or promoters of the
'Diversification' training seminar were not happy with my way
Of dealing with the Islamic Imam,
And exposing the truth about the Muslims' beliefs.

In twenty years there will be enough Muslim voters in the U.S. To elect the President!

I think everyone in the WORLD!!! Should be required to read this,
But with the ACLU, there is no way this will be widely
Publicized, unless each of us sends it on! This is your chance
To make a difference...

Please, for Christ's sake, send it on!
It is important for EVERYONE to know, and understa... (show quote)

Ive heard muslims are told to have as many children as possible like 8 or so, as the west has on average 1.8 children the plan is to out populate the world with muslims which is the easiest way to get rid of the so called infidel. In 50 or 100 yrs if this is the case then it is very possible if the world would go on that long..

I assume the dog was taken first... then the feathers one at a time then it was all put together in photoshop. But since I am really new to photoshop, I don't understand how the feathers were placed in so realistically -especially the blurred ones in the background.
I have tried putting floating objects into my images before but you can always tell that they were photoshopped in. They never look like they belong.
So, essentially, how do you put multiple other things into an image and make it look like it was not photoshopped (at least to the non-photographic average civilians eye)?

OR do you think there is a possibility that those feathers actually were thrown?

Also, what about images like this? https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=430042557097173&set=a.246661782101919.40764.244237412344356&type=1&theater
Same technique as the first?

You can obvious tell I'm new to this haha.

I believe there was no photoshop done here at all. Those feathers were thrown which is a lot damn easier than to photoshop them in later. Same with the dog with the leaves looking down. Not hard to achieve something like this.

Doing a timelapse in video takes up very little space compared to doing one with stills. I prefer to do stills because they allow for more fixing in post. After effects is great for working on your timelapse, but cost.

Do you PP each still one by one?

I have mac as well.. so time lapse assembler has post processing abilities? The time lapse came out fine but it just didnt seem to take up any space on my card. What speed do you use? 24, 25, 30 fps? Also does the software handle raw files?

A few questions regarding time lapse for those that have been doing this for a while and know the ins and outs! I had a go at time lapse yesterday with my D800E set to time lapse and I took around 350 photos on the time lapse mode but my card still showed empty and I was surprised that my battery showed full still after taking those shots. I had a fiddle with the interval timer mode also which actually used up space on the card. Anyone know the reason time lapse doesnt seem to use any space while interval timer obviously does? Also what is the software people are using to stitch sessions together and post process. I saw LRtimelapse but it wont work with aperture and by the look of it after watching the tutorial how to use it you need a pilots license to operate it. Any user friendly software out there for time lapse?

I am a casual, but serious, photographer. I am not into PP much, just want to clean images up and file them properly. I am an Apple guy and now use iPhoto. I am interested if anyone uses Apple Aperture as I have decided to follow that route instead of LR5 mainly for the ease of transition. From what I have read, and experienced with the LR free 30 day demo, it IS a superior program, but more so for the truly serious photographer and PPer! Just looking for some thoughts and opinions.

I have several PP programs but aperture is what I use mostly. Its great and when I want to further my pp I send the image to another program and finally it will be sent back to my folder in aperture.

Ok first let me say I have no intention of offending anyone! I'm very new and trying to learn as much as I can from such a wealth of info you all provide.
What I don't understand is if photography is art, which I know it is! Why do we need tools to enhance the pictures we take? Shouldn't they stand on their own? Shouldn't the person and the camera be the only tools that is needed?
I haven't uploaded one photo yet! But every photo I think I should upload I do a auto correct. (That is how much of a beginner I am). I can understand for professional people you want to provide the best possible pictures for your client. I dunno, maybe when does the editing end and the art begin?
Thank you all for your patience!
