Time lapse photography

A few questions regarding time lapse for those that have been doing this for a while and know the ins and outs! I had a go at time lapse yesterday with my D800E set to time lapse and I took around 350 photos on the time lapse mode but my card still showed empty and I was surprised that my battery showed full still after taking those shots. I had a fiddle with the interval timer mode also which actually used up space on the card. Anyone know the reason time lapse doesnt seem to use any space while interval timer obviously does? Also what is the software people are using to stitch sessions together and post process. I saw LRtimelapse but it wont work with aperture and by the look of it after watching the tutorial how to use it you need a pilots license to operate it. Any user friendly software out there for time lapse?

Not familiar with your camera. Check the manual. i do time-lapse on my Nikon d7000 with no problem. I have a mac so I use Time Lapse Assembler which is a free download and it's very easy to use and does exactly what I want it to.

Never tried it on a Mac but I expect iMovie would put them together for you. Treat it as a slide show with a very short duration per slide. Pick a duration of .1 or .0625 for 10 or 16 frames per second.

I have mac as well.. so time lapse assembler has post processing abilities? The time lapse came out fine but it just didnt seem to take up any space on my card. What speed do you use? 24, 25, 30 fps? Also does the software handle raw files?

Size issue?
Just a guess.
Time lapse using video quality of about 1040.
Interval timer using full size raw?

And I checked and it appears this is the case.

One of the wonderful features in Nikon’s D800 HDSLR camera is a built-in intervalometer that allows time lapse still photography in the “interval timer shooting” mode and time lapse HD video in the “time lapse photography” mode.

Picasa has a time lapse function that is really easy to use.I had a mechanical/electronic interval timer for my Olympus. I could shoot eight hours of photos at an interval of 15 sec. Picasa will put them together and spit out a movie. Just remember, every 24 or 30 frames will equal 1 sec of viewing. Have fun!!

for single frame time lapse I use the interval timer in the D800 PP the pictures and export as a JPEG into a folder then use QuickTime Pro to create a movie

Doing a timelapse in video takes up very little space compared to doing one with stills. I prefer to do stills because they allow for more fixing in post. After effects is great for working on your timelapse, but cost.

Can you transfer raw files to quick time pro?

Do you PP each still one by one?
