Yes, the T7i is the latest version of the T6i model. But, before you pull the trigger on that one, go look at the refurbished Canon website. They have an 80D that they are selling for $799. I just ordered one to replace my old Rebel. Its heavier than the T7i because it has an actual metal frame. The only advantages I could find that the 7i has is 1) the 7i is lighter and a bit smaller, 2) the processor on the 7i is a digic 7 and the 80D is a digic 6, and the 7i has bluetooth and the 80D does not. But, the 80D is sealed against weather, has a metal frame, faster shutter speed, and has the extra dial controls that you don't get until you step up to the T77.

The deal expires on Monday at Midnight, so you might want to go look quickly.

These bring back pleasant memories. I rode the Route from Chicago to Santa Monica twice on my Goldwing in 2008 & 2009. I have close to 2000 shots that I took with my old Rebel, and I would be hard tasked to pick my favorite.

Thanks for the memories.

Hi,
I too am new to the Hog, and I too have been looking at the T7i. I also think the Nikon models are excellent choices and if I didn't already have Canon lenses and flashes, I would buy Nikon. But, to be able to use what I have, I'm looking at the T7i and the T6i.

I'm just now hearing about refurbished, so I'm going to check that out as well.

I'm new to the forum and somewhat new to digital photography. I started in photography back in 1968 with a Miranda SLR, a 50mm and 135mm lenses. I burned up a lot of Kodachrome.

But, in the early 80's I developed Keratoconus in my eyes and could no longer see the viewing screen to focus. So I put the camera away, eventually selling it and the lenses. Then along came autofocus SLRs. I bought a Digital Rebel in 2003, and discovered that my vision hampered my ability to compose the shots. So my Rebel went on the shelf, only to be used for special occasions.

Now I have discovered new life with advances in contact lens technology and I'm looking to get back into photography. I'm going on an Alaskan cruise next year and I'm hesitant to trust my old Rebel for the task. I'm seriously considering the T7i as a replacement and thinking about handing the Rebel down to my granddaughter.

I hope to relearn a lot and pick up new ideas and knowledge from you folks.

Thanks for reading this.
