I'm new to the forum and somewhat new to digital photography. I started in photography back in 1968 with a Miranda SLR, a 50mm and 135mm lenses. I burned up a lot of Kodachrome.
But, in the early 80's I developed Keratoconus in my eyes and could no longer see the viewing screen to focus. So I put the camera away, eventually selling it and the lenses. Then along came autofocus SLRs. I bought a Digital Rebel in 2003, and discovered that my vision hampered my ability to compose the shots. So my Rebel went on the shelf, only to be used for special occasions.
Now I have discovered new life with advances in contact lens technology and I'm looking to get back into photography. I'm going on an Alaskan cruise next year and I'm hesitant to trust my old Rebel for the task. I'm seriously considering the T7i as a replacement and thinking about handing the Rebel down to my granddaughter.
I hope to relearn a lot and pick up new ideas and knowledge from you folks.
Thanks for reading this.

Welcome to our forum!
Congratulations on your new sight!
All of the Cannon and Nikon (I happen to shot Nikon) are great today. With the T7i you can get some nice kits with a lot of the things you need like filters, tripods, bags etc. for under $1000. Similar packagers are available for Nikon as well.

Welcome, glad things are working out now, T7i sounds good to me, I shoot a T1i and a T4i, my son has the T6i, and we are happy, Bob.
I love my T6i and the T7i has the same photographic features - different bells and whistles.
For Alaska, the 16mm of the kit lens may not be wide enough, and the 300mm of the second kit lens WILL NOT be long enough.
Remember only one in five people going to Denali ever actually get to see the mountain (we were lucky, and saw it 4 time out of 4 opportunities)
The most impressive view of Denali is when you come over the top of the hill and start down into Talkeetna!
It will start snowing there in 30 days! Have fun.
Welcome to the forum and back to photography.

Welcome. I am only a day or two into the forum but, from the reading I've done, you will find genuine people who want to help you learn. What a miracle, with today's medical advances, you have gained back clarity in your sight. A great blessing.
