My wife and I recently completed Route 66 from Chicago to LA on my Harley. It was the trip of a lifetime. We got to experience America away from the interstates. The people, places and things we met and saw created memories that will last a lifetime. I am posting some shots from the trip- these are not contest quality- but rather to give you a taste for the road. Enjoy !
The Beginning- downtown Chicago
The Gemini Giant
Chain of Rocks Bridge over the Mississippi
World's Largest Rocking Chair
The Blue Whale swimming hole
Carlinville Jail
Our guide finished the 72 oz. steak !
Cadillac Ranch- Amarillo
This is a most interesting series of photographs on Route 66, which I have also travelled on.
Thank you for posting, brought some memoires back for me as well.

Very cool. Post more of your pick from TX to CA. I've only seen in person the parts of Route 66 that is in CA. Most of it is just desert or in the suburbs, but there are a few weird buildings and places too. I have no idea of where you rode for sure in CA as Hwy 66 was at one time all broken up and nearly lost as a route or highway number. It rather jumps around today. In some places it is concurrent with I-40 to Barstow. Then South as 66 to Victorville. I was never sure where 66 went to cross the San Gabriel & San Bernardino Mountains. Looks like parts are Cajon Blvd and the I-215 to Mt. Vernon Blv., then West on 5th ave. But eventually you pass the Wigwam Motel, and Route 66 becomes Foothill Blvd. and Colorado blvd., Arroyo Parkway. Then the Pasadena Frwy (Hwy 110) to Los Angeles. Some places have markers some don't. Did you ride by the Pisgah Volcanic Crater in the Mojave? At one point back in 1980 I used to live on Marengo in Pasadena, one block from Arroyo Pkwy (Hwy 66). I wrote all this our more for my benefit as I had always wondered where Route 66 actually was in L.A. County.
Wonderful series. Like many others, when I travel I use the highways to get to my destination as fast as possible. I wonder how much I have missed out on by doing that?
The city of Monrovia, CA has given up posting Route 66 signs, since they were almost immediately stolen. Now they spray paint onto the streets, which is much harder to steal.

We stayed on 66 from Needles to Victorville. We took the freeway into Santa Monica. Our guide told us that with traffic and lights it could take up to 6 hours to navigate 66 thru the greater LA area. Parts of it go on Foothill Blvd, route 2, Santa Monica Blvd, etc. Believe me, riding the 10 into Santa Monica was bad enough !!
This is so cool, glad you got to enjoy what's left one of the Nations premiere highways in it's prime. I've been on Route 66 myself and it is broken up in many places. It parallels Interstate 40 though many States out west. Folks, you got to hurry if you want to see the remnants of this once great American highway. Portions are fading each year.

Thanks folks. I'll be posting another set later today. The guide we had knows the route ( there are three major iterations of the road dating back to 1924), having done it over 140 times and he kept us off the interstates as much as possible.
I hope you enjoyed a steak at the Big Texan.Largest steaks you have ever seen!

Our van driver took the 72 ounce steak challenge and finished it !! He wasn't feeling to good the next day.
Iconic images. Have done the "Mother Road" several times. Every mile tells a story and it's a cornucopia of photo opportunities from Chicago to Santa Monica Pier. Hope you enjoyed your journey and here's a thought for an on-going topic..... Rte. 66 story board..
