Thanks to all of you. Flight postponed till Tues noon: it's been pouring rain here in Princeville, Kauai, almost all day!
Hoping for Better luck tomorrow!
I am a novice using a crop sensor Sony mirrorless a6000--and going on a helicopter Oct 2 over Kauai!
I read the recent post's directions but got conflicting advice from this article from 2013. Man used Nikon D600
http://www.jasonwaltman.com/blgog/2013/tips-on-shooting-from-a-helicopter/
It show photos 1/1000 f8 ISO 1400-6400!
Help! I understand I should use my 16-50mm kit lens. UHH guys said f4. Auto ISO or 100-600? Fast shutter speed. I want to take in as much of the flight as possible and truly enjoy the whole flight, not be fiddling with dials etc!
What is "2 stops from max"?
What will work best for me and my camera? 16-50mm. 3.5-5.6. Sony a6000
Thanks for any speedy help!!
Welcome! I'm a novice too---and love my mirrorless Sony a6000! Hardly anyone on here uses this camera but it's a good choice for me. I had no investment in lenses when I learned about 'mirrorless.' It's smaller and lighter than most regular DSLRs. Just saying Go shoot and have fun! You can learn a lot on UHH no matter what camera you have.
Consider short rocky drive and short hike to Zapata Falls, just south (?) of the Sand Dunes.
Joyful Journey hot springs is magical. Enjoy!
Sorry for your delay. Responders: let's be polite here! No need for derogatory phrases. 😊 TB4 was trying to be helpful.

Just saw this quote in another post. I think it is relevant to this discussion. 😊
Thanks for all the beautiful examples!
No one seems to have mentioned the Sony mirrorless cameras. Smaller, lighter than most Nikon or Canon dslrs. Good quality. Sometimes new ones come with two kit lenses. I love my A6000. Not sure of price but you can find used. Research this camera.
I researched extensively. Was leary of cheap ones' connections. Decided I wanted a sling but one in which the camera slides ON the strap, not the whole strap moving, since I usually have a hydration backpack on too. Decided on the Imorden Falcon F-2. Has an under-arm strap to stabilize it. And a secondary safety tether. Shoulder pad is comfortable. Can hang left or right. Special plate attaches to 1/4" mount on camera but can still attach to tripod. Sling 'Trigger' attachment locks securely. Amazon $40 with hand grip included. List price $70. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M7YS7D4/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8
I may get a Peak Design neck strap for when I do not want camera on my hip. Easy on/off attachment system. Stabilize with Anwenk Camera strap belt chest stabilizer with elastic and release clip system. Can use with Imorden sling too.
I use Shutterfly. A friend uses Blurb because quality is also good but price per added page is much less. Consider what your purpose is for your book. Emphasis on the excellent photos? Let them star by using only the best/most remarkable. Chronology of your trip? Break up into chapters or even volumes. Or organize by themes--people, places, flora, history, geology. Or group by photo style--macro, b and w, architecture. Just some ideas. I enjoy making books but it is very time-consuming. Enjoy!
