Where are you from originally, and why did you pick Rome to retire in?
Rich
Originally from Poughkeepise NY, lived in MI, OH, NC, MD and PA. Last place prior to moving was Newburgh NY.
Picking Rome was simple - slow and laid back. Used to spend 20-30 days a year for about 8 years hanging out in Rome. It helps that I have dual citizenship - Italian/American.
Made the move simple - plus Rome is a great place to carry around camera gear.
A merger helped me to retire early and not only did I jump at the chance I packed up and moved to Rome, Italy which is now called home.
Still shoot freelance. The ability now to pick and choose what assignment is fun.
Do I miss the daily grind, the commute ..... yup about one second per month.
What you telling me my camera came with a manual?
Great pick up..... super camera...... and green with envy. I have looked at the 645 more than a few times and each time I am reminded I am now retired.
Post like these almost make me want to go back to work :)
OK maybe not....... enjoy and post some shots
Since finding Red River paper a few years back that is all I use. Cost effective, great products.
A large assortment of paper types and ICC printer profiles also on the site to help in getting the print you want.
Vintage 1984..... for 20 bucks you did good in my book. The lenses look clean and clear, camera looks pretty clean and little wear.....
Run out and pick up some film, pop it in and have a blast.
To be honest if I had seen that I would have easily offered $50 to start the conversation....
I have used Paintshop since ver 1.... and love it.
I also use Lightroom and now that 6.0 will be the dumped for upgrades unless you do the cloud and subscription I will stay with PPP X7 as it serves my needs well.
The man was doing his job, making a living and I doubt he got up in the morning thinking let me ruin some one's day.
I now do a lot of freelance work. At the end of the day I hope all the required shots came out, the client is happy, I get paid and I did my job well enough to be hired back in the future. Not to hard to understand.
I do try to get my shots and then get out of the line of fire if possible so the mom and pops can snap a few but if it is a situation where I need to capture everyone or every thing I am sorry if I don't move for you. Unless of course you would like to pay my next few months bills.
I have used Red River Paper for all my paper supplies for the past few years.
They have a great selection of paper and also have a large library of printer ICC profiles by paper type.

The upgrade is kind of buried due to the UI Adobe uses.
Put LR6 in the cart, go to the check out page and then edit. Once there you will find a drop down next to the full version.
Open the drop down and there it is the upgrade for $79.00
And yes the stand alone does not synch via the cloud and mobile devices but I do not use that function so it is a non-issue.
Downloaded late yesterday, no install problems and it is up and running.......
Hope this helps in finding the upgrade.
Go enjoy yourself and at a time when you can do so and have some fun.
I got to the point of hearing - you charge what? I have a friend that can do it for the cost of prints and they are cheap over at, (fill in big box store here).
On one of my close to the last assignment I was told by two of those in attendance it must be great to be able to charge a bunch of money for the same thing their point and shoot cameras do. They were also taking pictures to give as a gift and yes one was using an iPad. That helped make the move very simple.
Now I do only jobs by request and when I decide I have the time.
The first thing I did was post a sign that read - I am retired. As in the past I don't work for free; family and friends pay extra. Feel free to inquire if you have a need - I might just help out. Be advised my schedule is kind of full.
My schedule, I now get to shoot what I want, when I want and time is relative. It is really fun taking pictures for only one reason - I wanted too.
Congrats to the winner.
The shot has it all, emotion, thanks. Take out the little girl and the Purple Heart alone makes this a winner.
Because I can?
I often ask myself the same question - do I really need all this stuff. Two bodies, several lenses and the answer was always the same - backup, backup and at least I am prepared.
At the end of a trip it seems I used one body maybe two lenses but hey I had it if I needed it.........
It also got to the point I budgeted extra time at airports to make the far away gates and then it hit me......
Get a case with a handle and wheels.........
Have been on the daily list of new topics and finally realized I never joined.
Have been playing with cameras from the old days of film and finally moved over to digital about 5 years ago.
I carry Pentax equipment, a holdover since the film days.
Spent a few years when younger (like 40 years younger) taking sports shots for a local paper, then moved inside to work in the distribution area. Well 23 years later I changed careers and am now a operations and technology direction of a company in NJ.
Live in Newburgh NY just north of NYC and am looking to retire early in 2014 and move to Italy.
Have a bunch of shots up on smugmug and post everything I take to show that yes there are great shots, good shots and even ugly shots.
I tell people snap away, play with your settings and enjoy yourself. I do not do a lot of processing as what you see is what you got.
Photography is the one thing that gives you the opportunity to freeze time and create a small bit of history.
OK I get a little lost, I decided to turn around and on the pond was was this little guy....
Another walk along the river this time in Rome.
