I've owned 2 yellow labs and they were the kindest dogs I've ever encountered. My last one didn't have a mean bone in him.

Out of box for now. I have the usb dock and will play with that later. That first shot was using AF.

Thanks', mine is coming from B&H at the end of this month. Did you need to do a auto-focus fine tune, or were you able to shoot it on your D800e out of the box?

I've been waiting for months for this and today I found box on front door step when I came home from work. I am including first photo's with new lens right out of the box (no PP except convert from raw to jpeg). Ordered from C&H Photo in La Jolla, California. Using Nikon D800E on tripod. The Scrub Jay in my backyard at 7:30pm was very cooperative.

I started out with a Nikon F in the 1970's and had the 55mm micro nikkor as my main lens. It was not Ai so when I went Nikon digital later in life, I got an Ai one on ebay. Can't see not having it in my lens collection.

Go to the sigma-rumors.com site.
"This was caused by B&H assigning the wrong status to the lens (all mounts). It’s now back to “New item, not available yet” as it should".

Then there was the NIKOMAT and the NIKKORMAT. Same camera but the single K spelling was the Japanese version. As an American and have seen NIKKORMATs all my life, I (and my colleagues) pronounced it ny-kor-mat. When I first saw the Japanese version, my brain just wouldn't allow me to say n..n..n..nee-ko-mat!

Also, listen to those Nikon promo videos. I think they pronounce Nikon as nee-whatever. I am getting a headache.

Nikon has a 10% off on refurbished equipment that ends at 12pm 11/24 EST. The 80-400 AF-S ED VR can be had for about $2025. That puts it very close to the Sigma + dock. I am strongly leaning towards the Sigma. Thank you.

Sigma 150-600mm Sport. The 50% extra long range is the deciding factor, plus its $500 less money to buy new AND you have the ability to fine tune most of its functions to your personal shooting style and to your camera body right at home on your own computer using Sigma's USB Dock system and free tuning software.

Which lens would you select if each can be had for about the same cost? Use would be primarily for shooting birds and wildlife with Nikon D800e. Thank you.

Yes it is compatible with Nikon models that don't have a internal focus motor

I think he wants to know if it will autofocus with his D5200. The lens is compatible but may not autofocus.

I lived in Bay area my whole life and the Point Reyes area is my favorite for wildlife and beauty. If you like birds go a bit further south and check out the Audubon Canyon Ranch near Stinson Beach.

I have no issues with MTshooter's reply. He's like an old friend in this forum. If an old friend called me an idiot I know he means well and I take no issues with it but if a stranger said I was an idiot then I'd have a completely different and negative reaction to it.

Getting back to OP, the Nikon or Tamron lens might be too much lens for the D80. As others have suggested - upgrade your camera. Thank you.

I was born and raised in SF and I tend to take the local great scenery for granted. If you like birds try the Audubon Canyon Ranch in Marin County. Some spectacular views of the Bay is from the East Bay Hills above Berkeley. The Oakland Bay Bridge (Oakland side) has a brand new suspension span (replaced the old cantilever section) - you should get great views as there is a path for pedestrians and bicyclists. Did anyone mention the Marin Headlands? You can get views of SF from a very different perspective there.

I use the 234RC on a monopod with a D800E and a Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 regularly with no problems at all. This combo is almost 10 pounds and has worked for me for over 2 years. Manfrotto heads are quite under-rated.

That is great to know MT. I will revisit shopping for the 234RC.
