New Sigma 150-600mm Sports has "Unexpectedly" High Demand in pre-order status.
Sigma has officially released a statement that due to the unexpectedly high demand that the new 150-600mm Sports lens will not be available as a stock item for awhile. Pre-orders has been VERY high and since its a brand new lens design production will be limited. Pre-orders placed with companies that typically sell a lot of items (i.e. B&H and Adorama) will have very long wait times as they always end up with the most pre-orders.
Initial images released from this lens are amazing, and with the Sigma USB Dock adjustment capability there will be a lot of people wanting this lens. The "Contemporary" version will also offer USB Dock capability and at a much more affordable price ($1099) but will not have many of the Pro features of the "Sports" version.
I suggest pre-ordering from smaller dealers to get quicker deliveries.

Do you know whether or not the focus changes while zooming with the Sport? If it does not, it would be a most useful lens to me.
From press release
Both versions of the 150-600mm F/5-6.3 DG OS HSM feature dust and splash-proof features, as well as new water and oil-repellent coating on the front and rear lenses. They boast an updated Optical Stabilizer (OS) that features an accelerometer for improved vertical and horizontal panning, essential for bird, wildlife and motor sports photography. Two new switches were added for ease-of-use, including a new zoom lock switch capable of locking at any focal distance and a Manual Override (MO) switch for improved control of focusing performance. An enhanced auto focus (AF) algorithm and Hyper Sonic Motor ensure quiet and fast AF. The lenses are compatible with Sigmas newly announced lineup of Global Vision teleconverters, which are effective up to F/8.

With the amazing success of the Tamron 150-600, how could a high demand for the Sigma lens be unexpected?
From what I have read, the Sigma weighs over 6 pounds not a fun time to hand hold!

Hand hold a 6lb, 600mm lens? I know I couldn't do it.
I have the Tamron (which is about half the weight) and hand holding it is challenge.

Agree. Also, I think that many photographers pre-order from more than one dealer. After it's shipped, they cancel the remaining pre-orders. Bottom line: It doesn't help to know where you are on the pre-order list with big companies. Your true pre-order ranking may be more reliable with smaller dealers.

I have the D7000 and the Tamron 150-600 is on my bucket list.
Does the Tamron 150-600 have a built-in motor, thus making it compatible with a Nikon D5200?

Here is the Sigma press release on the issue:
http://sigma-rumors.com/2014/10/150-600mm-sports-lens-sigma-warns-about-short-supply/As to hand-holding a 6 pound lens, I guess it all depends on the abilities of the individual photographer. I have the Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 Sports lens and its exactly the same weight as the upcoming 150-600mm Sports lens, and I hand hold it for almost all my shooting. At night football games I do like to use it on a monopod with a tilt head though. Hand held shooting for 3 hours does get tiring.

Yes it is compatible with Nikon models that don't have a internal focus motor
