September normally being the rainiest month of the year, we have been cloudy and overcast at nighttime. So I started looking at 9:00, 10:30, 12:00, 1:30, and all you could see was a highlighted area behind the clouds. Finally it happened, the sky was clear and the moon was very visible around 4:50AM. So I grabbed my camera already set-up for the moon shot and this was my final shot of the eighteen shots I took (it took a while for my sleepy eyes to wake up). I took this shot with my Tamron 150-600mm lens, @ 400mm with stacked 1.4X and 2.0X Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 DGX extenders, f5.6, 1/800sec., ISO 2500, spot metering, minimal post processing and cropping. Very nice shot Gray, I'll keep those settings in mind when I get my 150-600mm next week.

I didn't even know how to spell "bokeh" last year ... and now I'm addicted.

Shot this yesterday with a 105mm DC set at 4R on a Nikon D600. This lens is so sharp indoors, but outdoors it comes alive! The backdrop for this photo was a patch of tall, dead weeds, backlit with a setting sun.

(I've known this boy's mommy since she was a newborn 30 years ago!)

Nice Bokeh, I would have thought it was a beautiful golden setting. Good job on the primary focus too, the eyes.

A perfect day at the beach! Thanksgiving Day!

I like the Seagull, nice and crisp with great out of focus background.

My Nikon D800 from KEH has arrived, The one that I bought stated in excellent condition and in looks it seems almost new, same for operation, It has no problems that I can tell and it is taking some nice photo's. The problem if it is one is it came with over 45000 actuation's on the shutter I am worried that is to many what do you folks think I have 14 days to send it back. What would you do?.

Nikon D 800 Frame
Kevlar / carbon fiber composite shutter with 200,000 exposure durability.
You have a long long way to go.

These are really nice Mark, the Sisters are good and sharp.
Having shot both of these I can understand the challenges of shooting Deep Sky with Prime Focus.

Thanks Craig. I think both stacks have merit. The first shot shows the patina a bit better.
I know exactly what you mean having shot a few coins.

Craig, by aberration, are you talking about halos or shadows around the edges? If that's the case, and I'm not familiar with Zerene, but Helicon says the aberration is caused by the stacking program itself not the lens. Helicon provides a tool for 'cleaning up' any aberration. I have the Canon 100 macro and have never noticed aberration or any other problem with it.

Hi Dixie, If you look at pic #2, closeup of the 4, and hit 'Download and the + to blow it up you will see the Red on one side and Blue on the other sides of the 3,4 and 5. That is exactly what I was seeing through the camera 'Live View'. I believe the previous owner of the Lens most likely dropped or banged the Lens badly to cause such a problem that pronounced. Sorry to bash the lens without knowing any better. First Canon I've ever owned. Been a Nikon guy since the early 70's. I'm going to try the other Canon Lenses and see how they do. Thanks for letting know Canon does make good equipment.
I just tested the 18-55mm kit lens and the problem is still there but far, far less. I had too blow it up quite-a-bit to make it noticeable, very acceptable.
Is something is wrong with my 100mm Lens??? Or am I just pushing it too far???

Thank you Dixiegirl & DOOK. It's been fun. I'm close but a little fuzzy between the lines.
Next I'll try shooting twice as many for the stack at 3mm increments. :P

Decreased the spacing to 3mm and I'm pleased not ecstatic but pleased. I am horrified at the Aberration in this lens. I've heard such good things about Canon Lenses.
The DoF Chart says I should use 2.1mm but I have no way of measuring that.
Oh I could, maybe another time. The horizontal lines are spaced at 6mm.

Looks good to me, CraigFair. I've got to try out this technique. I've had Helicon Focus since the first of the year and have never even tried it.

Next I'll try shooting twice as many for the stack at 3mm increments. Or move up 1 f/stop if I feel lazy.:P
