September normally being the rainiest month of the year, we have been cloudy and overcast at nighttime. So I started looking at 9:00, 10:30, 12:00, 1:30, and all you could see was a highlighted area behind the clouds. Finally it happened, the sky was clear and the moon was very visible around 4:50AM. So I grabbed my camera already set-up for the moon shot and this was my final shot of the eighteen shots I took (it took a while for my sleepy eyes to wake up). I took this shot with my Tamron 150-600mm lens, @ 400mm with stacked 1.4X and 2.0X Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 DGX extenders, f5.6, 1/800sec., ISO 2500, spot metering, minimal post processing and cropping. Erv, Thanks. I did get some sleep, in between looks. I have been wanting to get better moon shots, and finally got there. I have been following brucew29, who has helped me with set-up and some equipment usage. How is the weather in Ohio? It has been hot and dry here, only started raining around the Super Moon, which is unusual for us, normally rains daily in September. Gary

Hi Gary. I taught Bruce everything he knows.:):):) Now wait for the reply!:):) I have been hooked on the Moon every sense I went digital. The weather has been very hot and VERY wet this summer. But my grass and flowers have loved it.:) It even followed me to Michigan last week for vacation.:) Bruce has me stacking TC's now. But the 2TC I just got had something wrong with it so I had to send it back.:( I was hoping to use it this week on the Moon with my 1.4 and the 1.7 hooked to the 80-400. They are both Nikon TC's and will not stack. But with the Kenko 2X, I can put one on the bottom and one on the top.:):)

Erv, Thanks for the info. I had both Canon Extenders (iii's), but due to design they would not stack, so I sold them and bought the Kenko's (the Canon extenders would not attach to my Tamron 150-600 wither due to the Canon design). I second guessed myself about selling them, but the results of the moon shot does not have me second guessing anymore. I was actually able to pocket some cash, which I will turn into additional camera equipment, I have a lightning trigger/motion detector on order. Gary

It's always interesting to see how the moon looks from different latitudes and/or longitudes. Yous is rotated almost exactly 90° CW from mine. I don't have any extenders, though...probably why I don't get any detail when full, only partials.
Planepics, I did not realize there was that much difference. You made me do a search and this is what I found. Gary
Using the free program Stellarium, I show how the moon looks from Las Vegas at 12:20AM (the moon has just risen). I then show the moon (at the same time) for other points down through Mexico, across the equator, and down into South America.
