very helpful, thanks. desaturating was key.

Thanks, Dr. Nikon. It looked like you had a similar issue - to get any foreground detail, the moon ends up with a yellowish cast (albeit not unpleasant). With the moon in its normal gray tones, the rest of the image is overly blue. I am trying the radial adjustment tool in LR but finding it a bit tricky.

My post didn't quite finish. I was trying to say that I could not correct the sky and the rest of the image without making the moon look yellow. Tried the white balance eyedropper in LR which warmed up the temp considerably and resulted in the yellow moon. Any ideas for processing this to return a more normal looking moon?

Got this nice shot of the moon setting over mountains west of Santa Fe NM yesterday morning, just as the sun was rising and filled in the foreground. But the white balance seems off. To the naked eye the moon seemed more neutral, as in this second image which is the raw file right out of camera.

funny you mention that - I had a couple other uncluttered versions but for some reason they didn't work as well. Here is one- still pretty good but I liked the twiggy version better.

I like this a lot. Seems like shouldn't be so appealing with the busy background, but it all works beautifully.

yes, thanks. someone told me the smaller one on right was a tri-color heron? (BTW, I did another post a couple of days ago with some reddish egrets in flight in same area.)

good stuff. I like the last one best composition-wise. I did a set a few weeks ago of fog on the Potomac River that has some similar stuff. you can see it here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmbtfASX

you go to a place called Williams Park boat ramp in Brandon FL and get onto a pontoon boat and then it's about 15-20 minute ride to the mangrove banks. Our guide hired a very good photographer with his own boat for this but any shallow-hulled boat would work. Then you put on chest waders and get into the water and try not to fall over with your camera equipment (as I did at one point).

I think the bird was trying to send some semaphore signals but I couldn't quite make out his spelling. ;)

Taken on my bird photo trip that was the subject of earlier posts today on spoonbills, pelicans, egrets, ibises, herons, etc. Photos of the birds can be seen at my Flickr site: https://flic.kr/s/aHskwzuUVs

I'm a first-time viewer of this bird too. Another photographer on our outing to Alafia was partial to it, and once I took the pictures and enlarged them, I could definitely see why.

No it's called a reddish egret, but it's a cousin of the herons.
