I think that my elderly DVD player is on it's last legs and am contemplating buying a new one. There are so many choices out there and they offer features that I haven't a clue as to what they are. I play mainly DVD movies, no Blue Ray. Any suggestions as to what is the easiest to use and the most reliable brand to choose?

Find an old Logitech board. I've had mine for around 20 years, although it is not wireless. The keys are far enough apart so that my nails don't accidentally hit the wrong key and the touch is not a whisper away from activation. I keep it vacuumed frequently so it works just fine after all these years. I have a smaller wireless keyboard for my laptop as I just can't seem to type rapidly on those laptop keyboards without making multiple mistakes.

I'm happy to hear that someone else's TV has dementia. I thought mine was the only one. I have a 7 yr. old Samsung smart TV, and a few weeks ago I turned it off with the remote provided by Verizon, went to bed and was reading for about 15 minutes, when I hear the TV go on. I KNEW I'd shut it off as I'd watched it fade to black. I don't have Alexa or any other electronics that are "smart" other than the TV.

To appreciate art and of course to do it takes an active mind not a closed one. What kind of artist would stall his mind in adolescence? When Picasso was 18 years of age his father who was a professional artist quit painting when he saw his son had surpassed him. He thought his son would carry on his work as a French Salon painter. Picasso had other ideas and ended up birthing modern art.

Yes, he was an artist when he was young, however, which would you appreciate more from an artist's point of view, Botticelli's Primavera or Picasso's Les Demoiselles D'Avignon?

What kind of uncreative world would it look like if we were still in the Renaissance and the Hudson River school era?

My point is that it takes a lot more in depth artistic talent to produce realism vs abstract. When paintings by chimps and elephants are selling quite well and true artists' efforts go begging, I find that disturbing. I have no real talent myself other than one dimensional design as I do not see the world in the same perspective as an artist who can produce realism to the point where the viewer is in awe of their gift. I'm still trying to figure where the talent lies with Jackson Pollack splatter-dash canvases. When I was a child I remember doing the same thing on the floor of our cottage in stead of putting down linoleum. No talent there, but we did have fun splattering various paint colors all over the floor. I've been surrounded by artists most of my life, some better than others, and one who is truly exceptional. Children in kindergarten with no artistic talent have produced the equal to some of Picasso's abstracts, but no one is paying millions for their efforts, and I'm sure some of them put more effort into their drawings than he did. I certainly get more emotional feeling seeing an Albert Bierstadt painting of some place in Yellow Stone NP, than seeing Picasso's Guernica. If no one had ever come up with the idea of abstract painting, no one would have missed it.

It still baffles my brain that he actually got paid the Big Bucks for some of the stuff he did. Obviously, I am not a fan of abstract, UNLESS, it has pleasant flowing lines & shapes and soothing colors. I wonder at the brain that some of his weirder stuff appeals to. Even his Blue Period left a lot to be desired. Depressing. I guess my brain just got stuck in the Renaissance and the Hudson River artists when I took an Art Appreciation course. I had read somewhere years ago, that Picasso laughed his way to the bank.

A neighbor of ours raised organic bronze turkeys, chickens and laying hens. She would give us a turkey every fall and frankly they didn't taste any different than the standard white turkeys that I bought in the supermarket for 39cents a lb. The meat chickens were tougher as they were really free range all over her 120 acres. I roasted one of the chickens with stuffing and none of us could chew it. Then it went into a chicken soup where it simmered for a couple of hours and it was still pretty chewy. I'll stick with Costco or BJs for cooked chickens and el cheapo turkeys. It think it is all more in the way you cook a turkey than whether it is organic or not as to how it tastes.

Years back we had a postal employee who was keeping many of the coupon envelopes that were sent out, most of which had a coupon for a free lottery ticket. I was wondering why I stopped getting the coupons in the mail, yet the business I worked for in another part of the same town was still receiving the coupon mail. I always loved to get those free lottery coupons, but apparently, so did our postperson.

I bought a Roomba several years ago that was supposed to be great for pet hairs and could deal with fringe on rugs. With one cat that I kept brushed every day the pet hair wasn't a problem, BUT, it did fail miserably with the fringed ends of my orientals. I was constantly untangling the brushes on it from the fringe. Finally gave up and it has sat for 4 years doing nada. Waste of nearly $600. It did do well on plain floors, though.

That should be posted in every school room from K-12. My father always used to say, "There's two sides to every story." It made me question nearly everything and a better fact backed argument will go a long way in changing my mind.

Seems to me that these movie sets with firearms have to have a person who is licensed to be in charge of all firearms to make sure that this sort of things does not happen. Not every actor or actress is going to be fully vetted on the handling of firearms. The one in charge of firearms is the one who loads them and hands them off to the actor/actress. Why is this person not responsible in some way?
