Have you considered the Canon M5? I don't own it, but you can get body only for under $1k, and with a kit lens for a few hundred more. Besides, it should work with your current lenses.

The ef-s lenses won't work on M-body. They work fine on canon crop sensors, but you'll get vignetting on canon full-frame camera bodies. For light-weight photography, I have a canon sx50. 12mega-pixels, but that's good for all but the most extreme telephoto shots. Good Luck---

Got to see these in 1984. Weather wasn't very good that day, so didn't take any photos. Ver-r-ry nice, Geoff@

Most of the time, the camera is better than the picture taker. If the camera has manual function, the only difference will be resolution and sensor size, and maybe recording speed. I keep looking at the capabilities of the processor, too. Processors have gotten better and faster over the last decade.

I've decided I'm going to walk (carefully) around the yard looking for them. I assume the bird would probably be somewhere near the nest. Trouble is, I haven't seen him yesterday or today! But he's usually out in front.

Look for a slight depression in the ground. The eggs are speckled for camouflage. One to three eggs is common. If you haven't seen the adults for a while the nest may have been plundered. The adults are quite likely to be back next spring. There is open space behind our house so I hear them regularly. To hear a sample of the call, check out kildeer call on you tube. Hope you find the nest.

Nice shots AzPicLady,i cant help with the i.d though i'm sorry.

These birds are limited to Western U.S. I don't think you'll see them in the UK., not even stragglers. They are interesting birds. They have a way of pretending an injury if the young ones are threatened. Google Kildeer sometime.

Kildeer! Listen to their call when alarmed. "Dee, Dee!" They stay on the ground, mostly.

I am thinking about getting a canon EF-S IS f/3.5-5.6 is standard zoom lens for my canon t3i for carry around use. I shoot scenes, people, wildlife, etc. Is this a good choice?

There are several good choices for your t3i. I have been using the Tamron 18-270 for nearly 3 years and like it very much. There are four hoggers whose opinions I value: Linda from Maine, Regis, Sharpshooter, and MT Shooter. You might private message one or more of these. Good luck to you.

If either my wife or I buy something big, we always preface our confessions with "Honey, I did a bad bad thing..."
Last year she did "a bad bad thing" by buying a Boston Whaler for me. I forgave her.

I'll bet that was tough!!!

Love #1! How neat to know the location so you could scramble over there in time for an engaging image.

You're going to receive a great deal of criticism over that last shot, and I will agree with most. Not worth the risk.

At that point, I doubt the train was going very fast.
