Ordered one yesterday for a future trip. Now just have to wait for the backorder.
Thanks everyone. Really appreciate the input. Taking a trip next May where there are significant weight and baggage limitations. Looking for an alternative to my D7000 and lenses.
Thanx. I'll have to try that with my d7000 and see how that works. That has possibilities.
Thanks for the quick feedback. Appreciate the honesty.
I am considering ordering an sx-50, and have read that folks with glasses, in my case trifocals, have had challenges with the viewfinder. Any experiences with the sx50 and spectagoggles would be appreciated.
Miro;
By "soft", I mean that the focus is not sharp as it should be. If I am using it about 40ft or closer between 200 ad 270, it is usually tack sharp. But once it starts to go beyond that, the focus isn't as sharp as I would like it to be. And when taking distant shots of wildlife, the focus is usually unacceptable, especially if I want to crop and enlarge the photo.
Below 200mm, the focus is usually, spot on.
Hope that this is helpful.
I purchased my Tamron 18-270 when it first came on the market. IT is a fast focusing lens but mine is quite soft above 200mm at any significant distance. The new iteration may be better. I knew that the possibility of longer range shots in Denali were most likely going to be the norm and my 70-300 was significantly sharper at 300mm and distance. And the 18-140 is a very sharp, bright lens!! It is my #1 walking around lens.
I recently returned from a similar trip to Alaska. I took my D7000 with a Nikon 18-140 and the Nikon 70-300. I was very pleased with the results. Both got a lot of use. I left the Tamron 18-270 at home and was not disappointed.
Happily. And i'm Not THAT Stupid. Lol!
Have Someone Else Carry It.
Land/seascapes, wildlife/birds and travel.
Just returned from Alaska. Have a tamron 18-270, but too soft above 200mm. Took the D7000 with a Nikon 18-140 and Nikon 70-300. Great combination for the trip.
I have both the Tamron 18-270 and the Nikon 18-140 for my D7000. I found the Tamron to be quite soft above 200mm, but the 18-140 is tack sharp the whole range, and clearer / brighter for my aging eyes. The Tamron is back in the box.
Have Camped There. Beautiful Area.Our Prayers Are With You.
