I am considering ordering an sx-50, and have read that folks with glasses, in my case trifocals, have had challenges with the viewfinder. Any experiences with the sx50 and spectagoggles would be appreciated.

I am not sure anyone can give you very good advise. I have an SX50. I used to dislike the camera because of the view finder, but now I don't wear my glasses and like the camera very much. I don't drive with glasses, so you might not get along as well as I do. I wish you could get your hands on one to spend some time before you spend much money.

The SX50 has perhaps one of worst view finders I've ever owned. You can just about make what your shooting at. Live view is fine.

The view finder, which I use all the time, is fuzzy at best. I have learned to my trust in the auto focus which I have found to be supper. I'm a Nikon person and bought the Cannon for my wife. You just have to trust the auto focus.

I have an SX50. I've had cataract surgery in both eyes, but the surgeon missed the strength of the inserted lenses so I wear glasses. I set the diopter adjustment on the camera viewfinder so I can use it without my glasses. It works fine that way. If you have strong astigmatism correction it might not work quite as well.

Thanx. I'll have to try that with my d7000 and see how that works. That has possibilities.

I have bifocals & use the view finder out in the sun, but you have to trust the auto focus sq. If I'm using a tripod I use the screen when light permits. I have no real problem.

I wear progressive lenses, glasses. Not thrilled with the viewfinder compared by my T3i SLR, but the SX50 is such a great alternative to expensive and heavy long-distance lenses that I learned to accept it. On the rare occasion I do closer shots, or landscapes, with the SX50, I try to use the LCD.

I even called Canon about the EVF on my SX50 as I though something was wrong with it after using my old Minolta Dimage and Sony A57. The tech even took time to get one in his hands and it is what it is. I did finally get use to it.

The SX50 EVF is practically useless in my opinion, and I'm a viewfinder guy. I really started to send it back, just for that reason. That's probably why I haven't used it any more, than I have. I guess, It's a great little camera other than that.

Use the LCD, the SX50 does such a great job for such a little cheap camera that I put up with it. Sure my 5D did a better job on focas and it only cost 2500.00 plus Pro lens 2,000.00 SX50 cost 300.00. It weighs nothing compared to the 5D & lens at 9 pounds. I sold all, but the SX50. Also use the buttons on the side, they help.

With or without glasses the viewfinder stinks on the sx50 but is useful for framing at least. The rest of the features of the sx50 is what makes it a great camera.

I have always been a 'viewfinder' fanatic, but find (even with tri-focals), I'm using the screen about 90% of the time because of its convenience. When I do use the viewfinder, I don't recall a problem, and I always use my glasses when shooting.

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate the input. Taking a trip next May where there are significant weight and baggage limitations. Looking for an alternative to my D7000 and lenses.

I would not hesitate to use it on a trip, especially because you can shoot raw + manual mode. But then I'm more interested in composition and subject than pixel peeping :)
