I just wonder, Is there a way to record, externally, GPS data and ad it to the Exif data created in the picture file in a Canon 60D.
I used to see a Sony pocket GPS devise that when the clocks are set the same as the internal Canon 60D clock, the SD can be, after shooting, removed from the camera inserted into the GPS pocket and the GPS data is entered in with the pictures Exif data.
Has anyone, any experience with such GPS devices?

I add GPS data using freeware EXIFPILOT.exe (just location coords) to photos if I want the GPS information when uploading to Panoramio.com. To get the coordinates, I just use Google Maps, find the exact (or really close) location I took the photo, then right click and click on 'What's This'. It displays the coordinates. I then just input them in to the EXIF of that photo using the EXIFPILOT program (Windows.) There is a 'batch loader' plug-in you can purchase for EXIFPILOT but I only do a few photos at a time so I just use the freeware.

You know the old saying,...."If it makes sense,..they won't do it that way"

I'm with Idahoguy and would like it to stay set at least until powered off as it is a pain to take multiple delayed shots.

Final update-- from Nikon itself: Nikon replied to my email inquiry, telling me: sorry, that's the way we built the camera. I can't believe that they would phase out such a useful feature, but they did. Thanks to all for your responses and suggestions. -- Kevin

I think they had complaints that people forgot they set it to 2 seconds for one shot and then missed other shots because they pressed the shutter and it delayed 2 seconds. So they made it automatically reset to last setting before self-timer.

Hi. Been on the Hog for a year, but this is my first question. I just got a Nikon D5300 and love it, but I can't figure out how to make the 2-second delayed shutter mode "last" for more than a single shot. The other shutter release modes on the menu (for instance: remote, multi-shot, etc.) all seem to stay until changed, but every time I select a 2-second delayed shutter release, the camera resets to the "standard single shot" setting after just one shot.
Help! Any advice.
Thanks! --

Hi. Been on the Hog for a year, but this is my fi... (show quote)

Although I have a D5200 it is just the way it works so I would anticipate it also does on the D5300. Choose a 2-second delay, take a shot and then it returns to your previous single, L or H setting. So if I'm going to take more than a few tripod slow shutter shots, I get out my infrared remote ML-L3 as it will stay on either the 2-second delayed remote or you can just us the quick response setting as you are not touching the camera. I also set the remote control duration to 15m so it doesn't reset after not using the remote for the default of 1 min.

I have been looking at backpacks for a while to replace my Costo Targus sling bag. It's a good bag if I don't need to carry a lot, but I decided sometimes I want to have access to more gear.

After much research and reading reviews, I have decided to get the "Think Tank Street Walker Hard Drive" back pack. Look for reviews on Youtube. They sell them on Adorama (probably B&H too).

I spent 2.5 hours at Arlington Camera with all my gear trying it out in sling bags/backpacks when I was looking for one last Father's Day. Changed my mind from what I wanted based on internet searches (thought I wanted a sling bag.) I bought the Think Tank Streetwalker Harddrive also and it was even less than both B&H and Adorama.

To avoid confusion: Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 lenses do not have VR, while Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 or f/4 lenses do have VR.

Sorry, my mistype. I have the 18-200mm VR II.

I am considering buying a Nikon D-5200 and cant afford multiple lenses right away. What order would you purchase lenses. Is it ok to buy lenses on Ebay?

Thanks

I like the 80-200mm VR II with my D5200 as a first lens. I bought both camera and the lens refurb from Adorama. I also got the 35mm 1.8 but use the 80-20 98% of the time. I also use an EXIF extractor and pull all my shots into a spreadsheet and get a percentage of shots at each focal length. While I thought I wanted a longer lens, I found that of about 9000 shots, 27% were at 18mm and only 6% at 200. My next purchase will be a wide-angle zoom, like 11-16mm Tokina f2.8.

Can any one recommend a good depth of field app for the iPhone 5?

I like Lens-Lab. Easy to use sliders to determine hyperfocal distance, can set lens focal, sensor, and can set for metric or imperial. $2.99 but I got it free back when it showed up in appsgonefree.

Great catch! Good timing :-)

Thanks. It was nice to have my camera in hand while riding shotgun and able to jump out and take a few shots. If I'd been driving, wouldn't have got the camera out of the bag before they all landed. As it was, he was the last of 4 divers.

Move to the Dallas area and go to Arlington Camera. You can touch it, shoot it, smell it. If you want to test a lens, they'll take a new one out of the box and let you shoot it. Next time you fly through DFW, schedule a layover and take a rental car just a few miles to this great store.

It is nice to have such a good one nearby. For Father's Day I went to Arlington Camera and spent 2.5 hours with all my gear trying it out in sling bags/backpacks. WOW! I think I almost like the 200mm ones better than the 500mm shots. I like the composition that you have going too.

The 18-200mm F3.5-4.5 Nikon is much crisper and has autofocus. The in-expensive 500mm F8 is all manual was a bear to focus, especially when it was fully eclipsed and quite dark.
