My local best buy's camera department went from OK to dismal in about a year's time... If you want anything more than a p&s and a flash drive you'd better go elsewhere.

Follow up. After leaving I remembered the mission was to buy photo paper and (incredibly) returned for more.

I can sympathize. A couple of months ago when I was beginning my quest for a bridge camera I went into Best Buy for the sole purpose of putting my hands on the 3 models I was considering. Salesperson walked over and asked if he could help. I proceeded to tell what I was considering and why and asked for some very minimal info. He gave me the blankest look I have ever seen. He then said something along the lines of "gee I have no idea, I just work here" - seriously?! At least I went in neither expecting or wanting help. Just had to handle the cameras.

I had a somewhat similar experience at the local Best Buy. When I was looking to upgrade to full frame I went in to check some out and asked the camera dept guy if he had a DF. He said "No, they may be available online", so I asked if they had a D610 or a D800 and was shot down again. He said that full frame cameras were the "expensive ones" and that they don't carry them there.
