I am thinking of trying this lens, has anyone done so and what are your thoughts for a Canon 70D?

I shoot the Tamron on a Nikon. I use it exclusively for portrait and model work; I carried it around one day to see if I would use it for landscapes; it's heavy! Too heavy to lug around all day long. I understand why it's heavy and all of that, but it's tiring after a while.

I must be getting old.

Aren't we all?

I have an 85mm 1.8 that is made by Canon for my 5D. Price is not bad and low light situations are very good to excellent. Use it on my Rebel too, also works well on cropped canons.

Thanks Wickspics, but I am thinking more along the zoom type of feature in smaller shooting areas. Such as from a small room to a larger conference type of setting. Thanks for your imput.

Thanks Richard, I agree but the cost difference is something that sure makes one think. I just may need to wait awhile longer. Thanks again for your reply.

I need an opinion on which lens give sharper focus. I have a canon 70D and need a good low light lens. I shoot family gathering and landscapes mostly. I have a canon 40mm f2.8 but need longer reach sometimes. I checked the Tamron at a local camera shop. It seemed to be soft in its sharpness. They do not handle Sigma, some Hogs speak well of Sigma, and many like the Tamron. Any advice is welcomed and needed. Thanks for taking time to advise.

Need advice on which lens would be the better choice. Tamron f2.8 vs. Sigma f2.8 for a canon 70D, doing general shooting of landscape, some events and family. I am pretty well covered other than for low lighting situations. I am not a pro taking shoots other than for family and friends. Opinions are wanted (Wow, that is pretty open-ended). I am going to a wedding of a grandson, but not the photographer, then a cruise to Hawaii and would like a good low light lens, which would you chose, $500-1000 range.

Beercan, you have given me the exact answer to my questions. I shoot at 1040 and have wondered if I should be at the 720 setting. I use the 18-135mm lens, and have thought about the 40mm f.28 pancake lens, if that would cut down on the choppy action. I don't always have the choppy effect except while trying to keep up with the fast action of the rodeo horses etc. I really appreciate your replies and good suggestions. Thanks again!

Beercat, what settings on a 70D for video shooting a rodeo would you suggest. The movement is pretty fast, sometimes the playback seems a little choppy. Also, what lens would use? I am impressed with the wedding videos on your website! I am from Ventura originally now in Idaho.

Thanks Preachdude, I am interested in the Milky Way type of shots, etc. more than individual stars. I think that I should rent a more compatible lens and go from there, to the lens that I currently have. Are you a pastor?

Thanks robertjerl, that was also great information. I am thinking that I may have to upgrade to a better wide angle in the future. I will practice with what I have until I can afford it.

I am interesting in trying this type of photo shooting, but I know very little to nothing about it. I shoot a canon 70D and have these lens: canon 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM, canon 40mm f2.8 STM, canon 70-300mm f4-5.6 is USM, and 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM. Which of these would be the best for shooting the Galaxy, etc. and what would be the best settings? Thanks for your help and advice.

Thanks Jerry, I just followed your instructions and bingo. I now can see my errors in some of my focus mistakes. Pretty slick stuff Jerry!
